#Sabres Summary - Game 2 (1-1-0) CHI 3-4 BUF -passes were SOOO sloppy -in-zone defense was still loose, too many blown coverages -6-86-22 is so good -Crevier looked great imo, and Zellweger looked comfortable in his return from concussion -powerplay is trash, hope it's just the sloppy passing -Kuli!

Sabres Summary - Game 1 (way belated, 0-1-0) BUF 3-6 CBJ -UPL was concerning, but the bigger issue with goals against was team defense -holy shit special teams -I'm not overly concerned about the PP yet because it was a short camp etc etc, but the PK is a maaaasssive concern -6-86-22 is my fav line

Don't think we'll see Zellweger for the rest of the pre-season. Really hoping to avoid a concussion here - he's looked fantastic tonight. Also would've liked to see more response from the rest of the team. It's a preseason game so I don't care how clean the hit was, your guy hurt = confetti gloves.

Jeremiah Crowe has been poached by the Leafs. Was Sabres Director of Pro Scouting, now Leafs Director of Player Personnel. He was our Pro Scout when we made the trades for Byram, Norris, McLeod, and all the new guys etc. He was Director of Scouting during the Reinhart and Eichel trades.

Krebs contract is just about right. For a player who can play anywhere from 4C to 1LW, you're going to pay a premium. Combine that with the growing cap and the fact that the player hopefully has a bit more development left, and this contract makes a lot of sense.

I am conflicted about the Balogun thing, because on the one hand I do think the red card was the wrong call and no suspension is the correct outcome, but on the other hand it's abundantly obvious the only reason it got reversed is because Trump and Infantino are pals.

Based on my projected healthy lineup, the Sabres have 5 forward lines, 4 defense pairs, and 3 goalies that I wouldn't be sad to see in the lineup on any given night. I'm extremely not used to feeling that way about this team, and it's odd.

This really is the crux of it for Byram. 6x12.5 is amazing money for him, but Chi paying him as a #1 when he has never clearly surpassed the non-#1 guys in front of him is absolutely nuts. There were times when he was our best or 2nd best D, there were also many times when he was our 4th best D.

Messing around on Puckpedia, and I keep coming to the same conclusion: the Sabres have too many forwards. Based on Jarmo's end-of-year comments, it seems like he really sees the young guys taking an expanded role. That leads me to think they want Östlund and Helenius on the team all year.

Random thought but I feel like there has to be something coming down the pipe involving Knies and the Sabres. He's got a lot of Tuch in his game, while also having a lot of (the good parts of) Tom Wilson. Could involve the 4OA, could involve 20+Mrtka, could be some combination of things.

After the Sabres traded Kesselring+27OA to the Sharks for 20OA, I wondered what moving up those spots tangibly means. @puckpedia.com puts it at ~=46OA, which helps but was still a bit abstract, so I decided to calculate it. Turns out its a 7.64% increased chance that the player will play 100+ games.

Plot of the % chance a player plays >= 100 career NHL games as a function of their draft position. Decreases sharply at first, but slows to a gradual decrease later in the draft.
