The AI spam emails continue to evolve, I think this is the first one that has given an option to just write the entire episode for me, rather than just do an AI web search and give me the output.

Oh this is just never going to end at this point.

Considering it is 98 degrees outside I am going to call this a win. Although running always makes me feel like a failure.

The number of these I am receiving is really annoying. I have to check my spam folder because listener questions drop into it frequently so I have to see these type of emails.

New spam email meta just dropped. I have four of these just this morning. $25 for an AI agent to do some “fact checking” on a single episode.

I know it is old, obsolete, and should have been retired decades ago…..but also it looks weird in all the right ways in the air.

Real warm out here today but the conditions are perfect for that air show!

An event covered by one of the great poets of our time in her work "The Great War". A great retelling of the relationship between Britain and France before, during, and after the First World War. Taylor Swift really knocked it out of the park with this insightful historical analysis.

Surprised I was not instantly struck down by lightning fired from heaven and channeled through the might and majesty of the history of the Royal Navy when I made this typo.

I wonder how many millions of dollars it took to drop this guided munition onto this little $5k boat. Manufacturing, logistics, flight hour costs....

According to this book those things happened: archive.org/details/batt... And because it is in this book it is all over the Internet, as such fun facts generally are.....but there is no indication of where the information came from.

The thing that keeps me in Obsidian over other software is stuff like Dataview, so that my planning/roadmapping/writing is all being done in one place. Being able to have this type of view is a critical part of my podcast workflow.

I’m not complaining because there is a lot of good info, but when every page of an article ends up looking like this, with half the page being narratively structured footnotes…why aren’t they just in the article? Half the text is in footnotes!

Did I just spend WAY too much time mapping out years and years of podcasts episodes, all of which will change about a billion times? Yes I did. And do I give all my seasons names even though nobody ever sees them? Also yes. No, I will not be taking questions on when Season 17 will release.

One of the things that I find so rewarding about doing research for the podcast is running into things I had never even considered. Like how farm land was requisitioned for military use during the war at the same time countries were scrambling to increase food production.

As I have done for over a year now, with the release of a new image model from OpenAI I present to you the results of the Spitfire image prompt I have been using from the start. This concludes your PSA about "how skeptical should I be about images online"

Well, it has happened, somebody took my podcast logo, name, and description and slapped it on a (very) poorly done AI Slop delivery feed. It was inevitable I guess.

One of the most rewarding parts of studying history is when it relates to your current experience. Couldn’t help but think of Eisenhower’s D-Day speech when my family began a great endeavor this morning: we have opened a new 10 lb bag of pancake mix.

Random people suddenly becoming experts on foreign military campaigns when they hear the news did not start with social media. Social media just gives those people a bigger platform. This is from Paris at War by David Drake.

Over the last few days I have been working through Hitler's Empire: How the Nazis Ruled Europe. I have been quite enjoying it. It is part of a bunch of research I am doing for life in Occupied Europe which is something I have realized I knew very little about.

Here you can see what it is working with and the output. The only REAL fix for this is to find/get a better scan of documents that exhibit this problem.

2. Blurry scans where tesseract starts to have issues. The only solution I have found for this is various LLM based OCR processes that do a better job of working both with document structure and with blurry text. Below is an example of the input and output.

Now it isn't perfect, I would say that it is lacking emotion, but it sure as hell sounds just like me. I am not even 100% sure I could tell the difference. And the waveforms are not _that_ much different in Audacity so it isn't even super obvious on that level that it is fake:

The new world of automated slip creation, not just text but audio and video is such a disaster for every content platform online. Found this Reddit thread to be particularly interesting. The online tools that facilitate this type of content also devalue their own output.

I am sure people are starting to see various "Wrapped" things come out. Spotify also does one for podcast creators. I am continually amazed at how many people discover/listen to History of the Great War all of these years later. It makes me wish I was better at making podcasts a decade ago.

It will always be funny to me when the Google AI Overview is hilariously wrong, like for this search where it can't even be consistent within the scope of the answer.

With the release of a new Gemini image generator, once again doing some testing to keep abreast of what I should be concerned about when it comes to fake history images. Definitely the best I have seen, which is a bit worrying. With earlier models there were often not even 3 aircraft.

WTF New Stargate series announced? And it is not a reboot? With the original show runners involved? I will try to keep my expectations in check. Amazon? I still feel burned by Rings of Power. But it could still be good? Maybe? Hopefully? Please? www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhYO...

One of these, a 1995 Saturn SL2, I was not very kind to it but it never let me down. Even after a few hill jumps and way too much time spent above 100 mph.
