On Sept. 19, 1777, Burgoyne won Freeman’s Farm after seven hours of fighting. He gained the field. He did not break Gates’s army or open the road to Albany. The victory was tactical, but its costs were campaign-wide. tinyurl.com/5dtvjzy3

Burgoyne won Freeman’s Farm on September 19, 1777. But he did not open the road to Albany. His army suffered nearly 600 casualties while the American army withdrew toward its fortified position and remained capable of fighting. tinyurl.com/ymfj2d8p
