From high water rescues to delivering vital resources, Hawaii's National Guard stepped up to help our state recover from the Kona Lows and hurricanes in immeasurable ways. Mahalo for your service and dedication to keeping our state, and the people of Hawaii safe.

This September marked the second official Hawaiian History Month! A time to celebrate Hawaii's rich history and recognize the immeasurable contributions Native Hawaiians have made — and continue to make — to perpetuate Hawaiian culture both in our beautiful state and across the nation.

Donald Trump's delaying tactics kept Jack Smith from presenting his case to a jury, but that doesn't change the facts. Donald Trump lost the 2020 election and committed a series of crimes in an attempt to keep power.

My Republican colleagues asking Jack Smith about weaponization is rich... Trump's lackeys wrote the book on it.

Republicans' National Private School Voucher Program doesn't give families a choice. It gives private schools and unaccountable SGOs the choice instead. We need to pass the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act and keep public tax dollars where they belong: in our public schools.

Kash Patel swore to uphold the Constitution. But the only thing he's upheld is his dedication to turning a blind eye to this regime's rampant corruption.

Talking to farmers, trying poi, planting ulu trees... it was great to showcase Hawaii's diverse agriculture to Senate AG Chairman John Boozman! I look forward to continuing to work with him to develop a Farm Bill that supports Hawaii's farmers, crops, and families.

Trump campaigned on lowering gas prices below $2 a gallon. But gas in Hawaii is currently about $5.50 a gallon. Nobody in our country should be paying over $5 a gallon for gas while this regime wastes tax dollars on an illegal war, a ballroom, and a host of other nonsense.

You know what they always say... stop and smell the plumerias! It's always a treat to stop by Little Plumeria Farms to chat with my friends, the Littles, while getting to see and smell their beautiful plumeria trees. Wish me luck as I try to grow my very own plumeria tree!

I truly believe the creative parts in us need to be nourished whenever possible. I enjoyed visiting the REHAB Hospital of the Pacific to tour the facility, visit with staff, and chat with participants in the creative arts program who create beautiful artwork as part of their rehabilitation!

No better way to spend National Hero Day than with our nation's true heroes — our veterans. Glad to spend the afternoon at Oahu Veterans Council, speaking with veterans about how we can continue to best support them, and I plan to do that.

This regime claims to care about legal immigration. But from making citizenship tests harder to increasing naturalization costs by up to 80%, this regime is literally ripping the floor out from under immigrants who have done everything right — with no reason why.

Pete Hegseth has a problem with women. Particularly women in combat roles. From blocking promotions of qualified servicewomen to launching a bogus study on the “effectiveness” of women in combat, he's shown more interest in attacking women than protecting our national security.

A very powerful message from an Epstein survivor for us to consider as we approach Todd Blanche's confirmation vote.

Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 29/07/2026
Service members are losing their lives, more are being injured, yet this regime fails to provide accurate, transparent reporting on the true cost of this war. It's unacceptable. My colleagues and I wrote to Pete Hegseth, demanding the answers and accountability our nation deserves.

When this regime puts its thumb on the scale in favor of fossil fuels over more affordable renewable energy sources, it's Americans who are left to pay the higher electricity and gas prices, while massive profits go directly into the pockets of big oil companies.

"We left feeling demoralized" "Mr. Blanche talked around our questions" "We were gaslit" Todd Blanche only met with Epstein survivors after a Republican required him to, and this is how he treated them. Are Republicans really going to confirm this callousness to lead our DOJ?

Senate Democrats pointed out the rampant corruption, abuse, and pay-to-play behavior that would continue at Trump's DOJ under Todd Blanche. It could not be clearer: Todd Blanche will be an attorney for Donald Trump, NOT for the American people. We cannot confirm his nomination.

Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 22/07/2026
Since Todd Blanche couldn't answer simple yes-or-no questions in his confirmation hearing to be Attorney General, I thought I'd show him how it's done.

On Truth Social, Trump stated that one of his perceived enemies should be charged with RICO. A month later, under Todd Blanche, Trump's DOJ opened a RICO investigation against his organization. And we're supposed to believe that's just a coincidence?

After spending BILLIONS on Trump's war of choice with Iran, the Pentagon says they're running out of funds... This is what happens when you start an illegal war without a sound strategy, authorization from Congress, and an exit plan.
22811 28
Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 21/07/2026
People are being killed. Prices are going up. BILLIONS are being spent. Military readiness is being weakened. And this regime refuses to tell the American people the true cost of Trump's illegal war. The constant "I don't know" is unacceptable.

A 10 second clip that sums up this regime perfectly. Dismissive, disrespectful, and entirely incapable of delivering justice where justice is due.

Trump is the world's sorest loser. For years, he's pushed conspiracy theories and rambled on about stolen elections. And tonight will be no different. But despite what Trump so desperately wants to be true, our elections are safe and secure.

Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 16/07/2026
I asked Todd Blanche to clarify if he truly thinks it is Trump's "right" and "duty" to order investigations and prosecutions against his enemies. The only thing he clarified is his intention to continue helping Trump misuse the DOJ as his personal law firm.
23821 38
Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 16/07/2026
Todd Blanche talks a lot, but he doesn't really say much. Good thing he doesn't have to. Because actions speak louder than words, and since day one, his actions have proved he's unfit to be Attorney General.

As the North Shore rebuilds from the Kona low storms, I'm proud to see the North Shore Huakai program do what Hawaii does best: coming together to support our communities and neighbors. Supporting local businesses while exploring the North Shore all for $5! What could be better?

From "poke power bowls" to diverse after-school programs, it was so great to see that even amidst this regime's steadfast attacks on education, Hawaii’s community schools like Dole Middle are dedicated to ensuring our students have the support and tools they need to succeed.

Hmm... it's almost like... vaccines work to keep us healthy and safe from infectious disease. How sad that 300 of our service members had to get sick for this regime to acknowledge decades of facts and science.

Americans are saving at the lowest rates in over a decade. While Trump has made over $1.4 BILLION since taking office. The contrast couldn't be clearer. This regime doesn't work for the American people. It works for Trump and his billionaire buddies.

To put it plainly, yesterday this out-of-control SCOTUS ruled that the right to carry a gun is more important than a state's right to protect its people. Our country is awash in guns, and these decisions do nothing to make us safer.

5 million Americans can't afford health care. Yet, $14+ MILLION tax dollars are being spent on an algae-infested pool, and now our National Guard is being tasked with "securing" it. Apparently, guarding algae is a higher priority than ensuring Americans can see their doctors.
32813 28
Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 25/06/2026
Once again, this out-of-control Supreme Court majority is placing political ideology above protecting lives, making our state and our country less safe by expanding the presence of firearms.

Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 24/06/2026
We have a housing crisis in our country. THAT is the real national emergency. But Trump clearly cares more about interfering in our elections than about ensuring Americans have a safe place to call home.

Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 24/06/2026
222 troops are now sick because this regime continues to choose culture wars, prioritizing ideology over science and facts that have kept our forces safe for decades. How does allowing our servicemembers to get each other sick make our country any safer? Oh wait... it doesn't.

$14 million of your taxpayer dollars down the drain. Literally.

There is a reason flu vaccine requirements were established for servicemembers: to protect our troops. But apparently, Hegseth doesn't care about our troop's health or military readiness. If he did, he wouldn’t have gutted a science-backed vaccine requirement based on ideology.
0278 27
Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 23/06/2026
I warned that reversing flu vaccine requirements would put our troops at risk LAST MONTH. But Pete Hegseth prioritized ideology over fact, and now an Air Force training base has a major flu outbreak impacting over 160 troops. This regime's incompetence is sickening...literally.

$600 MILLION for a vanity ballroom. $29+ BILLION for an illegal war. $300 BILLION for Iran. Even $14 MILLION for an algae-infested pool. But not a single penny for the 770,000 hungry kids in our country.

Housing costs need to be cheaper. Rent prices need to come down. From discussing how to combat rising housing costs under this regime, to expanding affordable housing initiatives, it was great to meet with Hawaii REALTORS during their yearly visit to Capitol Hill!

Republicans are hoping the American people don't know the difference between showing a photo ID and proving their citizenship. But if the SAVE Trump Act passes, that difference could mean MILLIONS of eligible voters are disenfranchised from voting in our upcoming elections.
12211 22
Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 17/06/2026
Don't forget, Republicans SLASHED health care funding to afford tax breaks for the wealthiest people in our country. So while Americans go into debt to afford the life-saving care they need, Trump and his billionaire buddies are getting richer every day.

Senator Mazie K. Hirono @hirono.senate.gov · 16/06/2026
Trump says he "loves" inflation. We can tell. Since he took office, people in Hawaii are paying $872 MORE for housing, $310 MORE for groceries, and $263 MORE for gas. $4,100 MORE because Trump prioritizes anything but lowering costs for Americans.
