Don't forget that it was some on the Labour Right who used the anti-semitism smear to discredit Corbyn. They were given tacit support by Starmer to do so & some of them still hold influential positions in the Labour hierarchy. That shouldn't be swept under the carpet.

Last week in Brussels I had a round of meetings with politicians from several parties & officials from Austria, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, Hungary, Belgium. Everyone welcomed what seems to be a more open attitude from the Burnham government.

How about an apology to those genuine Labour people who were bad-mouthed, cold-shouldered, suspended, kept-off selection panels, expelled during that period ?

Major is indeed a good example. He acted on the golden rule of Britain's unwritten constitution. "No Parliament can bind its successor". Burnham is a not bound by the any "fiscal rules" or "Red Lines", it just suits him to hide behind decisions of Starmer's lamentable & dreary government.

Read "Lords of the Desert. Britain's Struggle with America to Dominate the Middle East" by James Barr. I re-read it earlier this year preparing for a lecture on the Suez Crisis, when the USA pulled the plug on the British Empire. But the Brits still believe the "Greeks in the Roman Empire" myth.

The crucial difference is that Canada has made a realistic & pragmatic decision that for any foreseeable future its smooth relationship with the US is over. Whilst UK can't shake loose from the myth of the "special relationship" with the US is still there.

Stan Cullis, Wolves captain & later manager, refused to give the Nazi salute before England's game in Berlin in 1938 & was dropped from the team. Paolo Di Canio gave fascist salute to Roma fans. Di Canio said Mussolini was "deeply misunderstood" & is a frequent pundit on Sky Sports Italia.
