I remember once sailing around Bass Rock in our dinghy from North Berwick. Quite an experience!

Another #rockingchair nearly ready for delivery. Remember that large slab of oak from back in November? It is now two beautiful rocking chairs. A little left, but not enough for another chair.

What an amazing year 2024 has been here at Hill Top Furniture! My rocking chairs continue to be popular with two delivered and one on the bench at the moment. Looking forward to the interesting projects that 2025 brings!

My latest #rockingchair is coming on nicely although it still looks like a pile of random pieces of wood. I worked out that there are over 100 pieces of wood in one chair!

We humbly interrupt your scroll to bring you the news that Wisdom—the world's oldest known wild bird—is breeding again, age 74. Go on girl. 😍

A screenshot of a social media post from USFWSPacific that reads:

"SHE DID IT AGAIN!

Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, is back with a new partner and just laid yet another egg.

At an approximate age of 74, the queen of seabirds returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge last week and began interacting with a male."

This tweet is paired with an image of two Laysan Albatrosses at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. Wisdom, the oldest known wild bird, is shown alongside her new partner, demonstrating her enduring legacy as a remarkable seabird.

Looking forward to work tomorrow! I have been on the lookout for a plank of English oak and I found this one yesterday! 3mx80cm of lovely quartersawn 2" oak. My task over the next 2 months is to turn this into 2 #rockingchairs. Not quite enough here for 2 chairs, but I have some other bits.

Out and about on a gloomy but nice day in the Lakes today. Grasmere, Rydal, Loughrigg fell and back around Grasmere for a well earned lunch in The Gather Grasmere with some Christmas shopping afterwards. #lakedistrict

Yes, quite unbelievable. But then clearly a large percentage of the population believes all these headlines to be fake. Or perhaps couldn't face having a black women as president?

Delivery day for this Cumbrian oak cupboard. The doors just have magnets closing them, but because of the air pressure of the cupboard it is impossible to slam them shut. Soft close doors with brass hinges! #bespokefurniture #workworker #oakfurniture #woodworking #makeintheuk

I have done several kitchen islands with lakeland slate tops. But this oak one has to be my favourite. The slate top was as big as they could produce at the quarry - 1.8m long and 80cm wide. #bespokefurniture #woodworking

I am a keen road cyclist and sailor. I live in a beautiful place and love the outdoors. When the sun shines I get out. If it’s raining I work. Brilliant to be self employed and able to work like this!🙂🙂

This glazed cupboard was a big project and quite an unusual job for me on several fronts. Painted Douglas Fir with 42 panes of glass! I designed, built and delivered it. The customer painted it and then I glazed it.

Any #woodworking enthusiasts here yet? 😁😁 #birdhouse

There seems to be a total absence of fine furniture makers on BlueSky at the moment. Hopefully they are on their way. Here are some pictures of an elm and sycamore wardrobe which I made recently. I love this Scottish elm. The grain is so pretty in it. I was lucky to find enough to make a wardrobe!

I went to The Major Oak near Mansfield in the summer. What an amazing tree.

This large boot bench is made from local brown #oak. Brown oak is considerably browner and darker than normal oak, but is the same species of tree. The brown comes from a fungus. I have since made a halfsize version for another customer. It can be made to whatever size fits into your hall.
