And 50 years on, in this age of corporate monotony, Booster is still an independent business, still family owned, still a proper curated boutique for awesome subcultural style. Thanks so much, Booster.

This was SO MUCH FUN. An honour to play the 50th birthday celebrations at Booster here in Zurich. Guys - back in 1976 it was the Kings Road boutiques jn London … and Booster. Pretty much nobody else was selling 1950s clothes and punk style.

This was the extended line-up that we called The Hillbilly Moon Explosion Rock'n'Roll Revue which featured the awesome Pete Thomas and Martin Winning on saxes, as well as none other than the legendary Geraint Watkins on piano. Yup that's the man himself in that first pic. What a band that was.

#ThrowbackThursday - seeing that we've just come back from Basque Country, here's some memories of when we played Bilbao some ten years ago.

2/3 ... a lament to a loved one who passed and memories of happier times. Emanuela brought the song to the band pretty much fully formed, with Oliver remarking, “you’ve written a Bakersfield country song”.

VIDEO VEDNESDAY! 1/3 This was one of the tunes that Emanuela brought to the band to yank us out of the covid limbo back during the lockdown days. “Guys, we can’t perform or go on tour, so we might as well work on new songs” - one of which was “Reno”, ...

3/3 It was released in parallel to the “Maniac Lover - Director’s Cut” version, another, more cinematic video with a full storyline and all (we’ll be featuring that one too soon, no worries). We still kinda like this one, though. Oh and: DAMN we were young.

2/3 For the track Maniac Lover off our debut album “Introducing the Hillbilly Moon Explosion”, we insisted on trying our idea of a lo-fi, one-shot, no-cut fisheye – a concept so raw and reduced, so nihilistic, we dubbed it our “Anti-Video”.

Way back when, we convened at a top secret location with our dear friend Sparky from Demented and, under the direction of Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Valentino, deployed oldschool techniques involving moving lights, smoke and the crew rocking a stationary car to make it look like we're driving.

From the Evelyn Kutschera photo shoot. We weren’t planning on doing any car shots but if a band member rocks up in his vintage sports car you might as well make hay, no? (Btw fitting all of us into a 1960s British 2 seater was high comedy 😂)

The repertoire is loads of stuff we never get to play otherwise - doo-wop ballads, Ronettes-meets-country, jazz-exotica, 50s nightclub mambo … It’s not often we get to do these kind of gigs, but when we do, they’re always super enjoyable (noooo NOT because there’s no drums, Sylvain 🙄😘)
