A morning well spent at International Charter School in Pawtucket where 5th graders hosted/moderated a mayoral debate. Students prepared thoughtful questions around housing, education, safety, ICE, parks, the arts, and more. Every community should be doing events like this with youth at the center!

And to all that say, just use money from cash reserves - doing so negatively impacts your bond rating which impacts the town's future ability to borrow money. Having a certain percentage of your operating budget in reserves positively impacts the bond rating.

Listening to WEEI this morn. about the situation in Foxboro around funding the $7M public safety tab for FIFA was infuriating. Municipal govts are not for-profit entities that just have that extra cash lying around. It's meant to be spent on services that benefit the community and reflect its voice.

Part of the problem ihmo are the antiquated regulations and standards by which the stormwater infrastructure is built. It doesn't feel like it's caught up to the our new climate reality.

I know that may be the strategy at Garden City. Employees at Yankee Candle there told me they were leaving the center because they were jacking up the rent in what they believed was an effort to attract higher end, boutique stores.

And oh btw, it's about more than four walls and a roof. If someone is homeless, it's usually not because they want to be, but because they have barriers to necessary supports like healthcare, transportation, income, or education. You can't address the housing crisis without addressing these, too.

Maybe a hot take (?): the housing crisis isn't just about more housing. It's also about the right TYPE of housing. Part of the issue is that seniors who are still in single family homes they raised their families in have nowhere to go to age in place that better suits their needs, 1/2

There's growing support around the thought of "I don't have kids in the schools anymore so I want my taxes abated." We're at a point where we've largely forgotten how we got to this model of government in the first place. Why certain public services like education are necessary for society. 3/3
