Just remembered that at the end of 3rd grade, my class and teacher were sad that we would miss each other over break so we picked a day to meet at the park that summer. Guess who showed up? Me. And literally no one else, not even the teacher. I think this says a lot about me, but I’m not sure what.

The nightmare continues. Just read the proclamation titled “RESTORING TRUTH AND SANITY TO AMERICAN HISTORY” and I’m ready to start a modern-day version of the monuments men. I’m very worried about not only the Smithsonian, but also the Library of Congress and the National Archives.

I don’t understand the goal of this paragraph in the executive order to dismantle the department of education. This statement makes it sound like the staff at the office of federal student aid is more efficient than the staff at Wells Fargo, and that that is a bad thing? Explain it to me like I’m 5.

Sending important emails today. I’m sure E.M. will be very excited about my accomplishments, though I don’t work for the federal government.

An email to hr@opm.gov with subject line Accomplishments Last Week and the body of the message includes this list:

1. Taught my high school US History students how to analyze primary sources such as political cartoons and historic Supreme Court cases.
2. Continued to raise strong, caring, problem-solving daughters.
3. Called my senators and representative in US Congress to urge them to address the many illegal and unconstitutional things happening in our federal government.
4. Published a blog post about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion of girls.
5. Went sledding.

Our calendar features a different interesting/silly holiday each day. My 4 year old loves to see what each day is. When your mom is a history and biology educator, you get quite a lecture on February 12 😅 She totally got it though - “yeah, some birds have long beaks and some have short beaks.” ❤️

My favorite thing to see while scrolling FB is the support for the amazing Barcelona-style bakery and pizzeria in my area. The master baker, who moved here from Spain, posts the kindest things along with photos of his beautiful foods. The community goes wild with love every time. Food unites us 💜🍰🍕

We need the dependent care FSA limit to be raised to much higher than $5000. Finishing up my 2024 spreadsheet for my family, and I spent over $12k on childcare for my two kids, and we use the most budget-friendly options in our area, and weren’t even using full-time care for most of the year.

I took my four year old to an art museum for the first time today! We had so much fun at the Detroit Institute of Arts. I was shocked that she explored for 2 hours in her high heels. She loved the interactive features in the embroidery and dining exhibits and she’s fascinated by mummies now.
