Today, I’m cheering for HOW JACKSON PATTERSON SAVED THE BAND by Maureen Straka 🎶🩷 A heartfelt middle grade story about friendship, finding your voice, and standing up for something that matters—and a reminder of how much school music programs mean to kids who need them! #kidlit

The #SunWriteFun judging round is officially over—I’ll just be here on the floor, recovering from the challenge of choosing among so many wonderful entries. 😎📚Your stories taught me new things, tugged on my heartstrings, and made my job as a judge both a joy and a challenge! #kidlit

I have no daughters, but I do have roses, and I consider them my girls 🌹They all cycle through their blooms at different times, so there are always some to be found somewhere in the yard. We made a nice bouquet for teacher appreciation day last spring.

I love a misty morning here. We don’t always get them. They are caused by a marine layer microclimate. If not for the later sunshine and heat, I would put on soup.

Not sure the “World’s Best Mom” would be two days late to the National Sons Day party…but here I am. A pretty good mom. Best gig I’ve ever had, ever. Like how I’m minimizing their potential embarrassment by not posting photos of them? (See, I’m cool like that.) #nationalsonsday💙

I mean…I think I could just walk out like this. It screams, “I’m a work in progress, and I’m not ashamed of that.” Plus the head towel is a nice little sun visor.

Beautiful Sunday in Malibu, my happy place, with Mike and the boys. Frozen yogurt, window shopping for long boards (hoping the birthday fairy or Santa gifts me one), walking the Point Dume cliffs, and then a Hawaiian dinner at Duke’s 🏄‍♀️🏄🌊🤙 🤙

I missed the annual Labor Day weekend girls’ trip to Martha’s Vineyard with my girlfriends back on the east coast. I was feeling wistfully sad about it. So they brought it to me in the form of a friendship necklace and sweet card they all signed while there!

You never, ever forget the first dog you fell deeply in love with. And they’re all different, like the people you meet throughout your life. This one loved me so amazingly from diapers to teen angst. RIP, Coco!

I’ve accidentally killed a lot of plants in my lifetime. But I’m very proud to say that I took this pretty much dying orchid that was here in our house when we moved in, and rehabbed it back to life.

Malibu Creek State Park. We had been wanting to see this area for some time. The most beautiful coastal live oaks native to the region. Easily 150 years old! Also where M.A.S.H. and Planet of the Apes were filmed many decades ago.

What a joy to see THE PUFFIN WHO WHISPERED out in the world! Marcia Strykowski is already a talented middle grade author, and this charming picture book proves she has a wonderful touch with younger readers, too. Little readers will fall in love with Abigale puffin. #kidlit #childrensbooks

Just two regular people doing very regular things… like eating a prix fixe lunch in Beverly Hills and pretending this is simply how we lunch now. 😂🥂 Dine LA, you’re a dangerous influence.

And just like that, my kids are back in school. Is this a good thing? Yes, I think. I’ll be productive. It’s so complicated, isn’t it? These feelings—the wanting things to slow down and not change, but then wanting it, even when you don’t quite know what’s ahead. #parenthood #motherhood #writerslife
