apparently the reputation of a certain british fantasy author is now bad enough that even an opera singer MCing an orchestral performance of a selection of japanese pop culture songs in sweden feels the need to insert ”utan transfobin” when comparing another author to her

5.03km/33min I think I could've done way better than that if I'd done this 4.5 hours ago as originally intended and hadn't had a false start earlier, but ahh… the feeling of pushing myself those last few minutes, that feeling is just wonderful… I wish this workout were longer…

I suppose this does line up with previous experience, that the skin on our feet is remarkably tolerant of splinters

it stopped hurting pretty quickly, I guess because I quickly removed it and stopped putting pressure on the foot? bsky.app/profile/hika...

I think I can see a tiny red dot which is probably where the cut was… though I think it would be better compared to a hole from a tiny, tiny needle I've cleaned the area and put a plaster on it in case it starts bleeding again later, but I guess I can… go back to running? wow

…wow, now that I got back and cleaned my toe, I can't even see where the cut was? there was quite a bit of blood before. the human body's ability to repair itself is kind of amazing. I guess it was a very tiny hole and the tough skin there prevented it from really taking hold

convinced myself the rain is no big deal but then somehow ended up with a fucking glass shard inside my shoe and now my toe is bleeding into my sock and ah oh god why is my day going like this

the most amazing part of this is that I apparently must have started looking for my bra, and then when I found it, acted so instinctually when putting it on that I did not realise the search was over

oh the text cards in Monogatari just use pre-WW2 kana orthography. I'm not sure why we didn't make that connection before. all the quirks are just the ones from before the 1946 reforms, including the fact that everything is written with kanji and katakana, no hiragana

we were on pills for a very long time without incident, but alas we have now learned we are unlucky enough to have a certain medical condition that is a contraindication against taking oral estradiol specifically

Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 06/10/2026
I think if life conspires to find a fifth substance that we must regularly apply directly to our skin we might have to riot (between eczema, trying not to get sunburn, and now apparently having to get our estradiol fix transdermally, we're already up to four, gahhhh)

why the fuck does sweden not have estradiol available in intravenous form whatsoever. what the fuck. can some sort of civilising force invade this country. this transdermal shit sucks

oops that should have been ユンゲラー, typo. not uncommon that we type something with a missing diacritic because it's there in our head and we somehow forget to check for it this is one kana away from ユリ・ゲラー (フーディン is one and a half kana away from フーディーニ)

Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 04/10/2026
oh my god he evolves into a Pokémon called フーディン (this must be what Geller was most upset about) and he becomes more powerful by having TWO SPOONS

Of the things we've been slowly trying to read in Japanese (that one Monogatari short story, the Angel Beats VN, and SubaHibi), it seems SubaHibi is the easiest so far. I think this is mostly because it's a 1) VN, 2) with voice acting, 3) including for the PoV character.

…the text in SubaHibi (at least this 15th edition Japanese release) shows up as tofu in WINE unless a Japanese locale is used (LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8). Shift_JIS won't die even in 2025…

I believe this is not the only case where the version numbering gets a bit weird for an Apple OS release due to them having (presumably) made branches to support particular new hardware
030
Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 02/10/2026
however, I guess they didn't have time to merge the iPad stuff back in for the big number bump! so you end up with this funny timeline where iOS 4.0, despite the name, only runs on the iPhone and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 is the first release that actually runs on all three.
130
Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 01/10/2026
they probably knew while working on “iPhone OS 3.2” that the name makes no sense for the iPad. I would suspect Apple avoided drawing attention to that name in the iPad's marketing. but they wanted to save the grand unveiling of the new name for the big 4.0 update, right?
130
Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 01/10/2026
there's a story here about marketing decisions and how they line up with engineering timelines I suspect they forked the iPhone OS codebase to make the iPad, resulting in “iPhone OS 3.2”. meanwhile, they would've been working on a successor to iPhone OS 3.x, resulting in “iOS 4”
140
Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 01/10/2026
if you're as stupidly old as we are, you may remember Apple's mobile operating system used to be called “iPhone OS”, and that it became “iOS” after the iPad came out what you might not remember is that iPhone OS 3.2 didn't run on the iPhone, and iOS 4.0 didn't run on the iPad

yes. I didn't even mention the fact there were people arguing that particularly troubled alcoholics should be sterilised
010
Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 01/10/2026
if you were homeless or jobless then, fuck you, you simply couldn't purchase alcohol at all if you lived in a city you got more alcohol than someone rural the upper class got the least restrictions and these detailed profiles were of course made use of by the police sometimes

Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 01/10/2026
they had an entire bureaucratic apparatus dedicated to deciding how much alcohol each person deserves and how much is too much, based on your income, occupation, housing, relationships, social class, criminal history, time spent in alcohol asylums, payment of child support, etc

Kanbaru 🌟 (one hikari of too many) @hikari.noyu.me · 01/10/2026
apparently, in the earlier part of the 20th century, Sweden had an alcohol rationing system that intruded so far into the lives of individuals that I think it would cause anyone who complains about modern alcohol taxation to die instantly upon reading about it
