It was famous for carrying fresh Florida citrus on board and inspired a legendary bluegrass fiddle tune. The radio waves used for these images have wavelengths of about 30 meters, or 100 feet. Much lower frequencies, so lower data transfer rates. They can go very long distances, even around the world. It's not about sunlight reaching the ground but rather radiation and particles from the sun ...

Short-range radio is usually VHF and UHF, including military field comms but also civilian walkie-talkies, law enforcement, broadcast TV, FM radio, and cellphones. Wavelengths there range from millimeters to about 10 feet. Sunlight doesn't affect it much, but cool and warm air layers do.

Shortwave Radiogram images

Pixelated and uneven. That's shortwave radio for you. Eleven images were transmitted, but I received only five of them. This is the first Thursday program in months in which I received any images at all. At that time of day, with the PA transmitter still in sunlight, it's hard to decode anything.

Something like that. If you hear a voice describing something, what you draw based on that is affected also by your own mind, your experience, your mood, your skill. But every computer, today and every day, would produce exactly the same image from the sound it hears.

A sender chooses an image to send and uses a selected algorithm in a computer app to convert it to sound. The sender then transmits that sound by radio. A receiver (in this case, me) receives that sound and uses the same algorithm to convert it back to the original image. Does that help?
