it’s disappointing to see news websites misreport on the capcom thing because they don’t have anyone who knows japanese. but as translators can tell you, they haven’t hired anyone with japanese knowledge in years. there are people like yours truly who can help. but nah, nobody cares.

New Blog Post: Why I Love Unfair Traps in Arcade Games People usually dislike hard memo traps in arcade games, or at best think they're "not that bad". I love them, though, and I think arcade games would be worse without them. Here's why: duckberet.com/blog/i-like-... (game: Violent Storm)

is it fair to express my discomfort whenever i see my name appear on lists like “alternative writers to follow in light of xyz”? i’ve never been one for self-promotion in the first place, but i honestly feel conflicted that i am indirectly benefitting from traumatic events…

after watching northernlion and chiblee play DressMaker, i feel like i need to hop on. this may be the best work sim. the control scheme is well thought out. the writing is also kinda cute; it’s like reading an english otomege. glad this game is doing well.

First dress: a two-tone orange and brown dress. Looks professional, methinks.

the demo for castlevania: belmont's curse was def a "dead cells devs try to make an igavania" game. i suspect it's gonna elicit some unfair comparisons to some of the greats, but i also think it doesn't have inspiring level design. it just follows a checklist of what a metroidvania must do today.

By no means fully comprehensive but these are some texts that have been helpful to me. TW: discussion of abuse and sexual violence

On Jacob Geller

I'm aware of the rape allegations against Jacob Geller, as well as the fact that his name is on a court-ordered list of UNC students disciplined for sexual violence. I've hesitated on whether to post anything about it, because the victim hasn’t been identified and I don’t want to participate in a retraumatizing conversation against their wishes. At the same time, as someone who has collaborated with Jacob Geller, I do not want my silence to be taken as endorsement.

For my part, I did not know about this and I wish I had. What justice and repair look like in cases like these are for the victim to decide, and I do not know their wishes or what accountability processes, if any, took place. However, strictly on a personal level, I’m uncomfortable having collaborated with someone who has presented himself as a nonthreatening feminist without ever disclosing his history of sexual violence to me or any other colleagues I’ve spoken to. I have no intention of ever working with Geller again. Beyond that, the person this happened to ought to be the ultimate authority on what happens next, and how they wish to tell their story if at all.
