A new project: the central figure in a piece of wooden wall art is an elegant Heron. Tons of shaping yet to do. All edges must be softened, rounded, and blended to bring it to life. Still working on a concept for the background. Wood art is a lovely blend of woodworking skills and visual expression.

Chris' latest creation, inspired by her love of the North. We're looking for help with a brief title that captures the feel of this piece. It will be entered in a Canadian competition.

My Rikon 10-3061 bandsaw produced several thin Black Walnut boards from one thick plank for use in an upcoming project. Resawing efficiently creates more material from a single plank with minimal wood loss. #woodworking #bandsaw

January: -time to gear up in the woodshop. I started with a simple project. I used clear Poplar, cutting an appropriate length of wood with a vintage handsaw. Then, it was on to the Pegas scrollsaw to cut the interlocking pieces of Mr. Moose. #woodworking #scrollsaw

A hardwood "coaster" project is underway. Ready to cut to coaster thickness today. Lots of sanding and edge shaping ahead. Then, several coats of the final finish. #woodworking

My Rikon bandsaw makes a number of tasks in the woodshop simple. The cuts maximize wood usage. Instead of planing a lot off a board and creating chip waste, you can resaw the board to close to your finished dimensions and then hand-plane and sand to a smooth surface. #woodworking

My contribution to this work of pyrographic art by Christine White was merely to prepare the Cherry backer. Entitled "Spirit of the Wild" it is all based on photos that Chris has taken in Ontario's magnificent Algonquin Park while kayaking and hiking. #pyrography #woodworking #woodburning

𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒅 This work in pyrography by Chris White draws on the warmth of cherry wood to bring Ontario’s native animals to life. The bear, fox, raccoon, wolf, and songbirds are portrayed with intimate detail, reminding us of the enduring wildness of our forests. #woodburning @woodworking

One of the handiest items in my workshop is my rolling "Assembly and Downdraft Table". Dog holes are available for clamping and holding items or assembling frames. Then, there is the very useful downdraft sanding drawer pull-out to reduce dust in the air. #woodworking

To counteract the many years of the downward pull of gravity, I made a little stepstool for the workshop. I'm certain that I used to be taller many moons ago. #woodworking

My Rikon bandsaw is perfect for resawing. I had a couple of Maple firewood length pieces sitting in my shop and determined that, once sliced, these would be perfect for a project. #woodworking #bandsaw

Oh Canada! I was happy to be asked to create a set of frames for two new original artworks by Christine White. The dual-panel paintings are entitled "Northern Escape". They feature textured relief that adds depth and realism to one of her favourite inspirations: Ontario's northlands

A regional Outdoor Studies Centre commissioned some Ontario animal profiles to be used as an indoor activity during inclement weather. The wood of choice was a special order of marine-grade Baltic Birch. The trusty scroll saw was used to create these. #woodworking #scrollsaw

Some precision cutting - walnut. The Pegas scrollsaw is vibration-free and the Pegas Modified Geometry blades track true. All that is needed then is steady feeding and fine-tuned eye-hand coordination. #woodworking #scrollsaw

A project from a while back. I made a set of trays for 'Christine White Artist' (my talented wife) to have her students use in an artistic painting workshop. It was a lot of fun to build these. The participants are using them regularly. #woodworking

Yesterday Walnut, Maple, Spalted Maple, Aspen, Birch, Hickory, and Cedar were purchased for projects. I look for grain patterns, colour consistency/contrast, and the absence of defects. Quality hardwoods are not cheap. Careful selection maximizes the value of each piece. #woodworking #scrollsaw

In the 1950s I had a noisy Craftsman scroll saw. I got rid of it and resolved to never have another. At a Niagara Woodworking Club meeting (2020) I learned what a modern scroll saw could do. I took the plunge. I now have a state-of-the-art Pegas 21, It's a key shop tool. #woodworking #scrollsaw

One of my passions is creating wooden jigsaw puzzles by laminating an image to 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood & then freehand cutting the interlock pieces to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake for puzzle aficionados. I use my Pegas 21 scroll saw and special blades for these projects. #woodworking #scrollsaw

A scroll saw creation for 2024. The Olde World Santa ventures into the forest of frost-sparkled evergreens and fanciful deer. Santa is cut and sculpted from Canadian Pine, the trees from Baltic Birch, and the elegant deer from Spalted Maple. An homage to the spirit of Christmas. #woodworking

My Rikon bandsaw is the perfect tool to resaw large pieces of wood into useable slabs. From there it is on to the planer to dress the surface and mill to the desired thickness. The bandsaw is very useful. These pieces of Maple are being sectioned off from a chunk of a fallen tree. #woodworking

Seasonal dress-ups for your Porch Pot of Christmas greenery. These "tartan" reindeer add a splash of whimsy and surprise to your entry display. Each one has a dowel base to place in the porch pot and a jute ribbon neck embellishment (neither are shown in the photos-I must add those photos sometime_.

My Pegas-21 Scroll Saw is a key tool in my woodworking shop. It gets many hours of operation each week. The Pegas can handle soft and hard woods up to 1.5" thick with the proper blade. I prefer Pegas Modified Geometry blades for most work (varying sizes & TPI). #woodworking #scrollsaw #scrollsawart
