to me, the parking situation is a weak argument when the stadium existed for 7 decades with said challenges. The north shore's parking situation (which is better, sure) is rapidly deteriorating as lots get swapped for garages or other developments. Stadium upgrades are a thing. See: Notre dame

There's a lot of Post hoc ergo propter hoc-ing going on about it now that it's long dead (Parking was terrible! It was out of date! blah blah blah) that all have very loose grips on the argument and can no longer be refuted due to it being long gone. all of them weak arguments, in my opinion.

a lot of politics involved. there was a lot of moneyhatting involved. There was a bad dude in charge of the athletic department (his first of two stints in the job too, regretfully). and a terrible calculation that basketball would somehow make money at a clip that would help justify the whole thing

It makes me sad knowing Mike's relationship with the university took a hit following the demolition of Pitt Stadium. He did some things here and there, but he pulled back from a lot of appearances because it pissed him off so much.

On my mom's side, the family and the Ditkas were close through the transportation worker's union - mostly through my great uncle. Mike and his dad knew him and the extended family. I only met him a couple times, but he realized who I was because of my elders and their history with his dad.

Tangential personal connection: Mike had a connection with both sides of my family that were not truly realized until my parents got married. Mike's dad and my Grandpa (dad's side) were close friends, and he even coached my dad in Baseball for a time. The Aliquippa community is small and close
