They can find ingredients for their Christmas dinner somewhere else.
Then he feels a hand land on his shoulder, and his vision goes red. He turns on Luke with his teeth bared.
"Let. Go."
Luke releases him, but stays within arm's reach.
"Still surly as ever I see," the disapproval is deeply familiar. "So it's true, you have moved back to Chandrila. I was sure it was just a rumour, since you haven't reached out to any of your family."

Rey closes the door of her - his - the guest room - behind her.
She's in so much trouble.
Usually she can see danger coming from a mile away, but this time she's been blindsided. Left herself completely vulnerable.
In her defense, she has no real frame of reference for this. Her childhood had been one of deprivation, not just of her physical needs, but perhaps more devastatingly, her emotional ones. She's learned to survive on the scraps of other people's begrudging attention.
Spending so much time with Kylo recently has been a revelation. At every turn, he has stunned her with the way he gives with both hands, willingly - no happily. She already knew he was a good man. Knew he was considerate and attentive in a way that drew her in right from the start. But these last few weeks he has been lavishing her with a level of care she would swear only existed in books if she wasn't experiencing it first hand.

Rose rolls her eyes, "There are not thirty of them." She does a quick sight-count.

They hadn't planned to hang out today, but a snow storm set upon the city. By lunch time the blowing snow was threatening to make the streets impassible.
Klyo's office closed down and he drove straight to campus to pick Rey up, bringing her back to his place. They might be snowed in for a couple of days, and he didn't like the idea of her being all alone in her apartment.
To pass the time stuck indoors,
Kylo suggests they cross another thing off Rey's list. He pulls out some gingerbread house making kits he'd picked up from the bakery around the corner earlier in the week.

Which is why she didn't mind waiting in the endless line at the hardware store. Why she used up a considerable amount of her decorations budget on the brightest, most obnoxious lights she could get her grubby little hands on. Why, even after a double shift at the bar, she was up on a ladder humming along to a Christmas carol she'd heard on repeat all day.

Like always, if someone wanted to push her, it was her moral obligation to push right back. Even against annoying neighbours who took "bah humbug" to a whole new level.

Truly, no one would blame her if they knew what she'd been dealing with.

He has to utilize some of the breathing techniques taught to him by a long-ago therapist to stay calm.
He knows he's being completely irrational. He has no claim on Rey, they're just friends, and he has no right to feel this angry watching the early-twenties sales kid at Sk8s hit on her. That does nothing to stop the arcid coil of jealousy pooling in his gut.
After being released from their snowy prison, they'd decided to return to The Verge Market, aka the site of the Whipped Cream Incident, to shop for gifts for their friends.
That, and Kylo wanted to get Rey the pair of ice skates he had promised the previous week, during her first foray into the sport. Admittedly, he hadn't said he would be the one to buy them for her, but he thought it would be a nice surprise.

The day was...chaotic, to say the least. Fun, but chaotic.

Now, the house is quiet and still; his wife putting the kids put to bed, exhausted after burning off their sugar rush, and his parents resting in the guest room after he turned down their offer of help.

"I should've said yes." His mutter is equal parts dramatic and truthful. It looks like a damn tornado made of wrapping paper and ribbon tore through the living room. Peeking into the kitchen, he's pretty sure the pile of dishes in the sink is as tall as he is.

Grabbing a handful of cookies-brown sugar monstrosities he just can't stop eating—he gets to work.

It takes hours-and many, many more cookies-for him to finish. Finally done, he pauses in the hallway, noticing a beam of light coming from underneath the boys' door.

Looking inside has his heart swelling in his chest.

There, huddled together under the sheets is his entire world. Two little boys—a perfect mix of them both-snuggled up to their momma. All fast asleep; all perfect.

He's careful to keep his steps light as he makes his way over, first pressing kisses to his sons' foreheads, then doing the same to Rey. "Don't worry," he whispers, hands moving to her swollen belly, "I didn't forgot about you." Pressing a kiss there too, he closes the door behind him, a soft smile on his face as grabs an extra pillow and blanket and heads right back inside.

Part 14 Kylo shares more of his past with Rey through making cookies #24DaysOfReylo #reylo #reylofic

They use Nonna Padme's recipe book to make the Christmas cookies of Kylo's childhood. The book itself is nothing special, just a plain dark blue A5 binder.
But what's inside it is magic. Each page contains Nona's handwriting - variously in blue, black, and red ink, with penciled notations as she adjusted recipes to her own taste. Decades of delicious meals and treats, passed down from her grandmother, mother, aunts, and friends. She'd made notes in the corner of each page indicating who gave her the recipe, along with a rating such as good, very good, good & easy, or in one case, a large X' through it and DON'T EVER TRY THIS AGAIN in huge letters underneath.
It's one of the most precious things he owns, and he misses Nonna so much he can rarely bring himself to look at it. It's sat untouched on the bookshelf in his living room for years. But he wants Rey to see it. He wants her to know his Nonna through this sacred text.

Part 10 Kylo finds both torment and bliss at the Winter Festival #24DaysOfReylo #reylo #reylofic

The Winter Festival is a hugely popular annual event that takes place over the course of a week at an old historic fort at the edge of the city. Tickets sell out weeks in advance, but Kylo was able to call in favour from a former client to get them in after Rey expressed her disappointment at not being able to go.
They arrive early in the afternoon, when things are in full swing. Just before getting out of the car, Rey puts on a pair of earmuffs that have cat ears atop the headband. He has to take a moment to sit with that image.
Unsurprisingly, Kylo isn't a fan of the crowds, but Rey takes in the scene with unbridled enthusiasm. Even though he is the one who has attended the Festival in the past, it's Rey who leads him through the organized chaos, guiding him first to the fire juggler's show then on to the axe throwing demonstration.

The box was a sleek rectangle, almost a square. Wrapped in simple gold paper, it looked unassuming and yet she felt like it was anything but.

She picked it up from the counter—he must've placed it there when she was getting dressed—and ripped the paper off with shaking fingers, carefully cracking open the fancy box it was hiding underneath.

Her gasp was loud in the stillness of the kitchen. Nestled on a bed of white silk was a delicate golden necklace with a small, sparkling charm hanging from the centre. It was beautiful; deep green emerald leaves surrounding the shiniest diamonds she'd

Looking up into his eyes was an even more beautiful sight; they were shining in that shy way of his that reminded her of their first few dates together. And this necklace...

Hours later, curled around each other like they so often were these days, Ben broke the quiet of the moment, his fingers running over the necklace still fastened around her neck. "You know, these were originally rubies."

Her head shifted to see him better. "Rubies? But that would've made it—"

"Holly. I know." His smirk crinkled his eyes in that way she loved. "I had the jeweller switch them to diamonds. Figured we should finally get our mistletoe moment."

Her giggles rang out around them until his lips met hers, mistletoe charm pressed firmly between them.

Colourful antique Christmas ornaments hang from a tree in front of a window. They include A seashell, a geisha, poodle, a leopard, a mushroom, and a platypus.

Despite the number of Christmas boutiques and fancy home decor stores they go to in search of Christmas decorations, Rey fails to find any tree ornaments that truly appeal to her.
"I mean, they're pretty - but they're boring. All the sets are too maych-y.
Everything feels so lifeless," she sounds so despondent it breaks his heart.
Which is why, before attending the Winter Festival, they spend the morning in thrift shops and antique stores. They kneel on dusty floors and dig through vintage glass and tin ornaments nestled in boxes filled with tissue paper. Some are the expected shapes of Santas and rocking horses and nutcrackers. Others are bizarre - fish and poodles and bunches of grapes. They come in every colour imaginable, glowing in the weak winter sunlight that filters through the windows.
