Before November 2025 CoPilot failed to do even the most basic .Net 4.8 to .Net 10 migration. I've not used an IDE for the migration. Made sure that the existing tests were not touched to keep the usability and contract. Some prompting on a mobile phone while on holiday too.

Love this picture from Ray Ison’s book. The people in the system bring their own personal history of thinking and understanding.

5 Juggling the B-Ball: Being a Systems Practitioner
5.3.2
Thinking and Acting Based on Our Tradition of Understanding
Understanding does not depend on information or, put another way, information does not generate understanding! The notion that we exist in language and co-construct meaning in human communication, much as dancers co-construct the tango or samba on the dance floor, suggests the need to consider on what basis we might accept that understanding has occurred? Asking this question is like opening a Pandora's box. It raises all sorts of questions that we take for granted, like: What is learning? What is understanding? How do we know what we know?
In Fig. 5.3 I depict some of the dynamics that come into play when we do what we do. The figure depicts a person (a living being) over time; as unique human beings we are each part of a lineage and our individual history is a product of both ontogeny, which refers to the biological growth and development of the individual
cultural and biological history

Fig. 5.3 A conceptual model of a practitioner who brings forth their tradition of understanding as they lay down the path of their walking (doing). All humans have a personal history within a wider cultural and biological history. A systems practitioner, for example, will from some moment have a history of thinking, acting or understanding systemically?°

I feel seen.
The thing is, I don't want to go out to Xmas dinner somewhere with friends. I don't want to have to pretend I'm enjoying their unsalted veggies, undercooked meat, dilute gravy and interminably long mealtime. I want decent grub at home, on my own, to my own taste, scoffed down in ten minutes and then a two hour kip.
The rest of you can suffer each other. Merry Christmas.

What are the kids dreaming up these days ?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always dreamt of one day building fully secure and compliant agentic workflows for the enterprise.

Today, my heart is brimming with unspeakable joy:

Isn’t the whole point of coding with AI to be more productive and do more in less time? Also this gem in the job description “Solve deep product problems like how to collect more money with a voice AI agent”. Sounds like modern day slavery to me.
At least 50% of the code you write right now should be done by AI; Vibe coding experience is non-negotiable.

I’m reading about decision making in systems and love that it includes moral framing. Quote from George Lakoff’s book on Moral Polictics
Lakoff proposes two fundamental metaphorical moral frames: the 'Strict Father' and the
'Nurturant Parent'. This is how he differentiates between the two:
Strict Father morality assigns highest priorities to such things as moral strength (the self-control and self-discipline to stand up to external and internal evils), respect for and obedience to authority, the setting and following the strict guidelines and behavioural norms, and so on. Moral self-interest says that if everyone is free to pursue their self-interest, the overall self interests of all will be maximised. In conservatism, the pursuit of self-interest is seen as a way of using self-discipline to achieve self-reliance.
Nurturant Parent morality has a different set of priorities. Moral nurturance requires empathy for others and the helping of those who need help. To help others, one mus take care of oneself and nurture social ties. And one must be happy and fulfilled i oneself, or one will have little empathy for others. The moral pursuit of self-interes only make sense within these priorities.
The moral principles that have priority in each model appear in the other model, bi with lesser priorities.

I'm reading a book, and there is an AI chatbot. I think an LLM should be able to answer simple questions about the book.

In his lecture on dynamic conservatism (how systems change to stay the same), Donald Schon discusses the different roles change agents have in an organisation. The burden of change is on the change agent.
Extract from the BBC Reith Lecture by Donald Schon. The highlighted text says "These are vanguard roles, roles
of change, and the dynamics of organisations make them the critical roles of change.
All of them put the individual at risk, all of them put him out on a limb, and all of
them make of him a marginal man who does not have a central position anywhere."
