I always make it clear to my #dnd players that death isn’t the end of their story. If they show interest in playing a character who has died, I go out of my way to help make it happen!

For villains, I started using “superior” abilities that mimic normal class features with a bit of a bump to their power. Stuff like “Superior Portent” might always result in a 1 or a 20 rather than rolling numbers at the start of the day.

#dnd balance has a lot more to do with how the players “feel” rather than the flat math of the game. Rather than ban features, I look towards equipping low performing players with magic items and balancing the encounters accordingly.

Death has become easier to mitigate over the last couple of #dnd editions. Some people increase the reagent cost, add a dice roll, ban the spells or add a lingering negative effect to resurrection! I prefer having the players go on an epic quest to get the diamonds!

There’s something really appealing about portable rams, sacks of flour and 10 ft poles. Throwing a bag over an enemy’s head is a popular move at our #dnd table. You’d be surprised by how many spells require the caster to see their target!

It’s okay to reuse #dnd plot lines or concepts. Your villain might be similar to previous baddies but your player’s actions will make every adventure unique!

"A-B-B. Always be blasting!" Gotta love #dnd Warlocks and their signature cantrip!

When I make a #dnd new character, I often pick class first and build all of their personality and backstory traits around their abilities. It helps me focus my ideas!

#dnd Monks and Barbarians aren’t the only ones proficient in unarmored combat 😎

Everyone wants to save their #dnd spell slots until the 8d6 comes out 😭

When my #dnd players get to the end of a dungeon, I try to have the villain present them with multiple options. Sometimes the villain will try to divide them with hard to refuse offers. Other times, he simply seeks mercy. Choice is the heart of the game!

#dnd Table talk can be confusing. My players use direct eye contact to show they're ready for in-character NPC talk. Others use flags, raised hands, or buzzers! What's your solution?

Hi Adventure @hiadventurecast.com · 18/06/2025
I rarely have a #dnd patron outright punish a paladin for failing to uphold their oath. If you are a less devout paladin however, there are extra dangerous quests a patron/god might send you on. That’s where the fun begins! How do you guys handle oathbreakers?

Do you guys keep things #dnd RAW or do you introduce homebrew from other sources? How do you feel about books like Tasha?

The true villain of every #dungeonsanddragons campaign isn't the lich or the dragon, it's scheduling.

Hi Adventure @hiadventurecast.com · 05/06/2025
I am always throwing in mysteries and twists with no plans to explain it. I always tell myself that I’ll have it figured out by the end of the campaign…either that or my players will forget. It’s a 50/50 toss up. #dungeonsanddragons

Sometimes the ideas you have at 3 am aren’t the best. It’s nice of my friends to give me the benefit of the doubt. I still stand by Town Town. #dnd

Made a ring that alters the effect of a spell through the use of puns. Can anyone predict how my players will use it? #dungeonsanddragons

There’s a lot of pressure to roll up a totally unique #dnd character for every adventure and campaign but sometimes it’s nice to lean back into familiarity and play a character you already know very well.

Sometimes the you don’t get the heroes you want. Sometimes you just get the heroes you need. I am very proud of how quickly my group went from serious medieval fantasy warriors to living memes #dungeonsanddragons

I give my players a lot of magic items and use attunement and hit die costs to limit their abuse. This has given them a big toolbox to take advantage of. They legitimately surprise me when they pull out magic items they found years ago! #d&d

One mistake lots of new DMs make is ignoring their player’s backstories. Talk to your players and pull allies and enemies from their backstory. It’ll vastly increase their interest in the plot. #d&d #webcomic
A paladin has a nightmare. As he tells the warlock about his nightmare, the paladin's dad is revealed to be alive. The warlock realizes that this is a sign that the paladin's backstory will be explored and knows that whatever happens next will be dangerous.

Rather than change class features, I find it’s easiest to make balance changes with magic items. They’re easier to justify within the lore, easier to change or remove, and can be tailor-made for each player! #d&d #webcomic

I love Warlocks but I find patrons to be some of the hardest npc’s to run. They are often larger than life, have their own motivations, and are very powerful. Running proper patrons with all of these elements can border on railroading. How do you guys avoid veering into railroad territory? #ttrpg

Vampires, werewolves, and trolls are infamous for their weaknesses. I think, rather than make that knowledge scarce, it’s more fun to make that weakness scarce and ask the players to quest and find it. #dungeonsanddragons

Over the years, I’ve had to come up with new ways to start adventures. I do miss the old days of starting in a tavern…maybe next campaign! #dnd

I love the sudden popularity of small and cute dungeons and dragons characters. I prefer to play traditional edgelords but the variety that’s popped up in the community is amazing! #ttrpg
panel 1- An evil patron summons his devoted warlock and requests he train a new apprentice.

panel 2- The warlock agrees and anticipates an equally evil apprentice.

panel 3- The warlock is introduced to his new student, a small silly kobold.

panel 4- The kobold wishes to call his new teacher his dad. The warlock denies the request.

I love meta humor in my campaigns. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I always get a kick out of it. If everyone is having fun, I think that’s what counts! #d&d

If there’s one thing I’ve learned running hundreds of mystery focused adventures, it’s to keep the puzzles simple. Players will always find ways to surprise you…for good and for bad #ttrpg

I love puzzles, riddles, and passwords (no surprise). Really tough riddles can quickly become frustrating. I’ve learned that players will have fun with the easiest of riddles so I like to keep things simple and straightforward! #ttrpg

Death has become easier to mitigate over the last couple editions. In my setting, finding diamonds is harder than normal and being caught with them can land you in jail. It’s become a fun secondary resource for my group to manage! #TTRPG

Some #dnd rules are vague. For Wild Magic Surge, I have the #sorcerer roll an additional D20 when they cast a spell. A surge occurs on a nat 1 or nat 20. My players can take their complaints to the dice gods!

If you are playing a game and you feel you need to “punish” other players, something has gone terribly wrong. Talk to them out of game. Most people don’t realize they’re creating problems! #dungeonsanddragons

D&D brought your table together but your friends keep it together. You can play another game if you ever need an extra week to prepare a session or extra time to unwind. Try suggesting some choices or asking your players what games they recommend! #dungeonsanddragons

Gotta love Barbarian Rage! My favorite Dungeons and Dragons oddity is the fall damage cap. Fall damage caps out at 20d6 bludgeoning damage. I don’t know where this figure came from, but it was used in 3rd edition as well. I guess it’s a dnd tradition!

Alignment is a fun dungeons and dragons mechanic. I’ve started making custom alignments for each adventure I run based on the big themes of the campaign. A couple examples include tradition vs modernity and pirates vs the navy. Sky’s the limit!

DnD is a team sport! Two of my players have really taken that fact to heart. They started coming up with absurd combos. Whenever they make eye contact, I know something wild is coming next. Has anyone come up with real legitimate spell combos? My favorite is disguise self with friends!

A comic inspired by my Curse of Strahd campaign. Lots of Dungeon Masters hate edgy D&D characters but I feel like the edgy character is a symptom and not a problem. How do you encourage your players to roll up more interesting characters?

Hi Adventure @hiadventurecast.com · 23/02/2024
I like to use strong dungeons and dragons npcs as examples of how powerful the players can one day become. Sadly, powerful npcs do introduce problems! The most obvious is the Avengers Effect. Why aren’t the strongest superheroes handling the problem themselves? You need an explanation!

There’s an art to throwing out dungeons and dragons plot hooks! My favorite story involves my players hunting down an aboleth and getting jobs to grind out gold and “progress the story”. The druid started selling purified water to sick citizens. Almost everyone in the city died.

I love moments in Dungeons and Dragons where a player pulls out some obscure class feature and wins the day. While I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of the game, I do consider myself well-read! Even so, my players still manage to surprise me with some crazy situational feature.
