Let's celebrate faculty members from the CHA'S 2022 Faculty Magazine! Hilary Kalisman, Kirk Ambrose, and Daryl Maeda and their works are featured below. For the 2023 Faculty Magazine, we are accepting submissions until December 21st. www.colorado.edu/cha/funding/...
A gold and black graphic showing Hilary Kalisman- with a headshot picture of Hilary wearing a black blazer and white blouse. Kalisman is described as an Assistant Professor of History and Endowed Professor of Israel/Palestine Studies in the Program in Jewish Studies.
Another graphic of Kalisman's work is shown, which is called Teachers as State-Builders and tells the story of the few young Arab men—and fewer young Arab women—who were lucky enough to teach public school in the territories that became Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine/Israel. Crossing Ottoman provincial and, later, Mandate and national borders for work and study, these educators were advantageously positioned to assume mid- and even high-level administrative positions in multiple government bureaucracies. This transnational study reframes our understanding of the profession of teaching, the connections between public education and nationalism, and the fluid politics of the interwar in the Middle East.A gold and black graphic showing Kirk Ambrose with a headshot of Ambrose wearing a gray button down and a black to blue ombre background. Ambrose is then described in a text bubble next to his headshot as a Professor of Art History; Founding Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at CU Boulder.
Kirk's work Urnes Stave Church and its Global Romanesque Connections is shown along with a photo of the book cover.
The description of Urnes Stave Church and its Global Romanesque Connections is detailed as; This book situates the art and architecture of the stave church of Urnes within a global perspective and aims to reinvigorate scholarly interest and debate in one of the world’s most important churches.A gold and black graphic showing a headshot of Daryl Maeda- wearing a blue suit with a white button down underneath. Daryl is then described as Dean and Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education at CU Boulder in a text bubble next to his picture.
Below features a picture of his book Like Water: A Cultural History of Bruce Lee which is described as A unique blend of cultural history and biography, Like Water unearths the cultural strands that Lee intertwined in his rise to a new kind of global stardom. Moving from the gold rush in California and the British occupation of Hong Kong, to the Cold War and the deployment of American troops across Asia, Maeda builds depth and complexity to this larger-than-life figure. His cultural chronology of Bruce Lee reveals Lee to be both a product of his time and a harbinger of a more connected future.
