Dorothee is one of my favorite Trails characters

Also pretty early on a horse I stole was attacked by bandits and the horse fought back and killed the guy.

When a Doom level starts with both shotguns like this you know it's about to fuck like crazy

Might be getting review bombed because of """woke""", but personally I didn't like it as much as some of the earlier games. It's still a pretty good JRPG though.

And a few screenshots since I can't include them in backloggd reviews.

Tales of Graces f Remastered screenshot: Asbel standing in the Yu Liberte Inn, a gorgeous diorama of elegant architecture and flowing waterfalls, complete with a frozen snowman off to the side. There's a bar up some stairs set against the very back wall too with its own flowing water furniture.

Tales of Graces f Remastered screenshot: A skit between Richard and Asbel with Asbel saying "Being your sword is a kind of salvation. I don't have a place in this world, but your hope gives me hope."

Tales of Graces f Remastered screenshot: Asbel, Sophie, and Cheria dwarfed by a spaceship launch pad and a view of their home planet in the distant sky. Asbel is saying "I guess we have been through a lot, huh?"

I wrote a bit more about the Tales of Graces f Remaster than I intended to (and I intended to write a lot). Going to edit this down and hopefully post tomorrow. But yeah, really had a great time with that.

A word count for my Tales of Graces f review. 9 Pages and 4985 words long.

I'm still chewing on it and sorting through what I liked and didn't like but the worst feeling is that I should have stuck with my gut and got off the ride at Reverie, it truly was the best farewell the series could have gotten. Anyways, here's a few fun no context pics. (2/2)

Trails Through Daybreak Screenshot: An NPC painting a city tower saying "Art is a subtle thing. Behind the obvious shapes and colors lie abstract feelings and emotions... and that's what makes artwork so important."

Trails Through Daybreak Screenshot: Marielle the rooky journalist saying "...but I'll pursue this story with journalistic integrity and respect for the subject's privacy!"

Trails Through Daybreak Screenshot: Rebecca the shy mechanic saying to herself: "(He works with mechs AND he's attractive?! Aidios, give me the strength...!)"

Trails Through Daybreak Screenshot: Aaron in the back of the truck with Quatre saying "Laaaame, there's nothing better than hanging cocks out with the boys in a hot bath."

Since I probably won't write anything else in the next 24 hours, here's a rough idea of how much I wrote this year, over 40k words, which I'm kind of proud of. Here's to more (hopefully better, hopefully weirder) writing in 2025!

A pop up window in Notepad++ summarizing all my writing this year, with 233,070 characters, and 40,736 words.

Finished this gunpla over the weekend. I usually gravitate towards grunt/mook units and really loved this mass produced Aerial in WfM. I pretty much only snap-build so be kind.

Only thing surprising here is Elden Ring squeaking ahead of Reverie, but that's prolly cause I started a new character from scratch ahead of the DLC.

My PlayStation wrapped results, with Elden Ring at the top followed by Trails into Reverie

My annual zine is complete! For 3 years now I've summarized a bunch of cool stuff I played and watched over the year. This year's mostly picks from my backloggd reviews(www.backloggd.com/u/heyserg/re...) but I also added a few new articles and you obviously want the awards and cat collage, right?

Just finished Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau (the steam sale has been nice). Genuinely one of the most bizarre games I've ever played, massively complimentary. It's amateur dev 7th gen Call of Duty Ghosts but with LITERAL ghosts. Military shrine maidens, shotguns, stealth sections, it's peak.

Screenshot of Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau: Shiraishi standing in a gloomy graveyard saying "Rest in peace and go fuck yourself."

Screenshot of Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau: Shiraishi still wearing a schoolgirl outfit but covered in armor and guns saying "Fuck yeah."

Screenshot of Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau: A dark red scene with Team Leader Maiden Kawashima saying "Holy shit, how should I put this... It's even more apocalyptical (sic) than I expected."

I'm still going through my Trails into Reverie screenshots for my zine and I don't really have room for this one but man I love Dorothee. There are so many tertiary and incidental characters throughout the series and Reverie manages to fit in payoffs for just about all of them.

Order of Ecclesia used to be my favorite IGAvania but it might be my favorite Castlevania period on replay. Just an absolute buffet of all the great modes of play the series can employ and the plot surprised me even now with its nuance. It's a banger of bangers, a great game made with passion.

I finished Lorn's Lure! The last level was a huge spike in difficulty but I managed and on reflection I appreciate what it represents. The skill ceiling for this game is a little too high for me but I enjoyed stumbling through it and appreciating it's amazing ambience.

Been playing and loving Lorn's Lure though I haven't finished it yet. It's a first person precision platformer set in something like the Megastructure from Blame! and I cannot stress enough how in all these screenshots you're expected to actually traverse these enormous levels.

I finished Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (even Julius mode afterwards)! I had a great time but it's maybe my least favorite IGAvania. The generic anime artwork does it no favors though it still has plenty of mechanical depth in its search-action gameplay and I loved some of its weirdness.

What’s your “no one but me remembers” game? It's spooky season so I'll take the opportunity to stan Extermination for PS2. It's a schlocky survival horror game that's clearly riffing on The Thing but it also has interesting movement and platforming in the vein of something like Tomb Raider.
