This is the Magnus Hirschfeld memorial, in Berlin. He founded the world's first gender identity clinic near this spot, which was destroyed by the Nazis in 1933. I visited it in April 2025, I sat there for an hour and nobody else stopped by. It's not on the tourist route. Perhaps it needs to be.

The memorial is a steel column that has a bloom of rust on it, and it has a plaque with the details. It stands in a small garden, still leafless from the winter, and the river Spree and Berlin skyline are visible in the background.

People's understanding of patriarchy and feminism needs to be informed by how (cis) male peer groups are structured by misogyny is well, how (cis) male homosociality often hinges on purging, punishing and consuming the feminine. This is very much related to how they treat women and queer people.
