in my little corner of the documentary world, the one that doesn't do slick, easily digestible docs for the simple minded, this man's loss is enormous. Do yourself a favor and dive into Frederick Wiseman's work. He did not make "trash with flash." Said with reverence. www.npr.org/2026/02/16/1...

Frederick Wiseman, who captured the weirdness and wonder of everyday life, dies at 96

The prolific, pioneering filmmaker made dozens of documentaries and chronicled the inner workings of institutions. His 1967 film, Titicut Follies, revealed appalling conditions at a prison facility.

Photowandered Hollywood Blvd. with friends earlier today. Nice to get out of the house and away from the desk. This was a clothing store, but made me think it could also be a pro wrassler with substance issues.

Putting what I can in the win column during the ongoing awfulness, so I'm stoked my street here in Los Angeles has working streetlights again. Thieves stole the copper wiring in May. Let's hope they stay on until brighter, longer days come our way.

Sad to see Sly Dunbar leave the stage just a few years after his musical partner, the legendary riddim section bassman Robbie Shakespeare. The world is considerably less locked-in tonight and I for one feel it. For now, an old favorite from the Taxi Records days... RIP. youtu.be/kLRfPBA0pWw?...

Are you familiar with the word "sublimation?" The process where a solid turns into a gas while bypassing the phase of being a liquid? Do you get the feeling that self defense might have to sublimate to another form soon? Have you studied offensive strategies beyond Sunday afternoon football?

The morning spin on vinyl. A quietly powerful pushback against the horrors of the age. A foundational album in my life. The Curtains of Old Joe’s House is decades ahead of its time, especially in Appalachian folk. Y’all know Si Kahn and this album?

Happy solstice! Once we get through this very long night, little by little, day by day, everything gets a little brighter for a little longer. Plus, Jake Paul and Andrew Tate got whooped in the ring this weekend. Maybe 2025 is trying to turn it around at the 11th hour?

Typically, I don't play much electric guitar in my solo sets. But sometimes, it's fun on a few songs. So... maybe this comes with me to the gig at Ojai Underground on Sunday night? Nothing like some good P-90s to throw an aggressive handful of dirt into the mix.

Hi friends, I'm playing a show on Sunday, November 9 at Ojai Underground Exchange in Ojai, California. 7p downbeat. If you can't make it up to that delightful mountain town, you can get a ticket to the live stream. Details coming soon.

If you are bored easily by the neverending nonsense, mess with folks who don’t travel, don’t research, and don’t read. When they spew forth about Tylenol and autism, first test them to see if they can pronounce “Acetominophen.” Then ask them “Oh, what about Paracetamol?” IYKYK.
