It never ceases to amaze me that I can cut in 10 seconds a portion of a manuscript that I spent hours researching and crafting. 😅

The American Library Association strongly denounces new federal book banning legislation proposed in Congress. Call your Reps. Tell them to oppose H.R. 7661. Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121

American Library Association, Show Up For Our Libraries"Parents, not politicians, should guide their children’s reading. In our school, campus, and public libraries, materials are selected by trained literacy professionals who understand child development and community needs. Their work is grounded in one clear purpose: helping young people become lifelong readers.

H.R. 7661 isn’t fundamentally about protecting kids. It’s about giving politicians broad authority to restrict whose stories are allowed on the shelves. That should concern anyone who believes in the freedom to read and the right of families to make decisions for themselves.” - ALA President Sam Helmick"Rather than targeting librarians and teachers, Congress should invest in them. The Right to Read Act offers a better path, supporting well-staffed and well-resourced school libraries, strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction, and protecting the dedicated professionals who help young people discover books that open doors and expand horizons.

When we trust families, support educators, and protect the freedom to read, our young people thrive.” - ALA President Sam Helmick.

Hello Again Ohio! Here are some talking points to contact your state reps about the absolutely disastrous budget bill. If you're an author, you can join AABB to coordinate & organize. We are strongest together! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
If you are in Ohio CALL State House Reps & Senators. Tell them: The bill will cause irreversible harm to one of the most celebrated library systems in the country. The bill will actively harm young people and queer people in every community. Ask how the state will help support rural libraries most likely devasted by this bill.

My fellow Ohioans! Alert!! Ohio has always had stellar libraries, and we can't let this stand. I just contacted my State Representative, and you can find and contact yours here: ohiohouse.gov Here's a screencap of my message (w/alt text for easy grabbing!!) if you want some inspiration. 📚
I'm writing to urge you to restore the Public Library fund to 1.75% of the General Revenue and NOT cut funding to Ohio libraries in this month's budget cycle.

My beloved Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County-- which I quite literally use every day, via in-person visits and/or the Libby
app-- will lose $14.5 million, a 29% hit, if the House’s budget is adopted.

Ohio has a proud history of excellence in libraries, from the building of so many Carnegie libraries, to our enviable interconnected systems like OhioLink and SearchOhio, to several regional systems (including PLCH!) regularly ranking among the nation's BEST and the nation's MOST USED
systems. For generations, libraries in our state have enjoyed broad public support across the political spectrum. People on the right and the left, in rural and urban areas, across the age spectrum, use and value Ohio libraries. As the Trump administration is recklessly taking a chainsaw to funding at the federal level, including recently at IMLS, now is not the time for the state to pinch pennies.

Libraries are one of the core democratic institutions that make America a decent place to live, and they've long been at their best here in Ohio. Let's not squander a good thing. Thank you for your time.
