In honour of the ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey news here’s one of my favourite calls I’ve done on commentary from Speedball’s match against Ninja Mack and Gringo Loco from Demand Lucha!

And I like most of those things other nerds like. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dragon Ball etc.

Unfortunately a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays and Green Bay Packers as well. Long have they brought me pain but ya know always next year yadda yadda

I play guitar (poorly) and love the stylings of Brian May, James Hetfield, Eric Clapton and Chris Shiflett among many others.

Batman is a close second superhero and the main character of my second and third favourite movies and my third favourite game. One of the greatest characters in fiction as far as I’m concerned.

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

I bloody love a 3D platformer. A good one of these will have me replaying it for decades. Crash 3, Spyro 3 and Mario Odyssey being my favourites.

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Cowboy Bebop is my favourite anime. This aesthetic of anime remains my favourite. It makes my brain happy. The story of this rag tag group looking for where they belong only for it to not be with each other is very satisfying. Watching it again right now, still love it.

Nightwing is my favourite superhero. Probably comes from loving Teen Titans as a kid. Always the best Robin, hope he gets a great movie one day.

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Scott Pilgrim vs The World is probably the most ME movie out there. Love it, love the soundtrack, makes me nostalgic for the Toronto of the 2000s which granted wasn’t all that great but it had Honest Ed’s

Celeste is my favourite game. Hit me at the perfect time in my life when I needed it the most. I have three tattoos from this game.

Basketball is my shit and it’s maybe the biggest non family/friends thing I miss about home. Kawhi’s shot and the chip that came soon after remain highlights of my life.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is my favourite movie. Movie makes me feel so good.

Young Bucks vs Kenny Omega and Hangman Page. My favourite match. Never again have I had a live wrestling experience quite like it. Brilliant wrestling, captivating storytelling, enthralling characters. The best tag team match of all time.

Kishin Liger. I love anime and the anime superhero wrestler having an evil demon living underneath the colourful mask is the single coolest thing I’ve ever seen in wrestling.

Randy Orton talking about getting into the zone on WWE Heels. Genuinely this brief explanation of his warmup made Randy a much more interesting performer to me. Fascinating stuff and a transformation you can see in real time.

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

This is an obvious one but The SmackDown Six. Just exactly what I want from my weekly wrestling. Highlighted by Edge vs Eddie on SmackDown and the No Mercy tag among many others.

120

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Kenny Omega vs Tomohiro Ishii from the 2018 G1. In particular Kevin Kelly’s call at the end of “he’s unbeatable, OMEGA IS UNBEATABLE” is one of my favourite commentary calls ever.

120

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Jon Moxley’s match with Ishii in the 2019 G1 Climax and his post match promo. This was where I knew Mox was gonna be okay and would thrive post-WWE and his promo saying no one tells him what he can and can’t accomplish gives me chills every time. Also a brilliant match.

130

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Orange Cassidy’s first singles match in AEW. This is one of my favourite matches ever. And to the guy who was sat next to me in a building full of people having the time of their lives, who said all the people cheering were killing the business. I remember who you are and you are a fool.

160

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Chris Jericho’s honest man gimmick. The best character in WWE for two years straight when he had the best matches of his career and was entered into the best rivalry of his career with Shawn Michaels.

120

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

The finish of the Kota Ibushi/AJ Styles match where Kenny Omega couldn’t bring himself to interfere on AJ’s behalf but his hesitation still distracted Kota enough to cost him the match leaving both heartbroken.

120

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

The Hardys vs Young Bucks ladder match in ROH. When they recreate the finish of the Hardys vs Edge and Christian No Mercy match as a false finish here I did the Leo meme and I still consider it one of my favourite ROH matches.

120

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Batista’s heel turn. My friends and I meme on this a bit but I think you can genuinely see the great acting chops Dave has, calmly telling Rey that he’s not playing and he’s gonna rip his head off. Way more understated than the big yelling promos we are accustomed to.

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Syuri and Utami Hayashishita’s double knockout match. One of the best matches of this century made all the more emotional due to the story attached to Syuri and her recently passed mom.

140

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Sasha Banks vs Bayley - NXT Takeover Respect I think this is an even better match than Brooklyn. Particularly Sasha getting a point via countout and then gloating with Izzy’s headband, I don’t think her work as a heel has ever eclipsed what it was here.

1100

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi. Just one of the best matches of all time.

1100

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Rob Van Dam’s ECW TV title reign and his rivalry with Jerry Lynn. RVD remains who I compare every fantastic mid card title reign to and is a perfect example of how to elevate such a title through the amount a wrestler cares about it.

2100

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Edge and Christian’s 2021 Royal Rumble reunion. As a kid from Toronto it meant a lot to see these two guys get one more heartwarming moment together. Shame it wasn’t in front of fans but it still makes my heart happy.

1110

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Mick Foley’s Cane Dewey promo. One of the best promos ever from an era where great talkers were prevalent. Puts a lot of emotional weight behind Foley’s approach of not giving the ECW audience what they wanted at the time. A masterful performance.

1120

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Kenta Kobashi’s two year GHC title reign. I wish it ended with a bit more significance but otherwise this is one of the greatest title reigns of all time.

190

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

The entire Okada/Tanahashi rivalry. My favourite feud ever between two of the best ever. Tanahashi’s soft heel turn at KOPW 2013 is one of the best pieces of in-ring storytelling I’ve ever seen. Every match from 2012-2019 is must see.

190

Hey It’s Tempest @heyitstempest.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

“I dont give a damn what the Tribal Chief said.” Rarely has a single line of a WWE promo elicited a reaction out of me like this did. Rarely has Roman felt more intimidating since then.

Positive thread of my favourite things in all of wrestling because this is the happy app of sunshine and rainbows.
