Part 6 of my ongoing series on Asian Artists We All Need to know. Frankly, bringing these stories to yall gives me such joy. I’m discovering so much about Asian history and it’s all very fulfilling. 🥹✨Anyway, midway through editing, an entire clip got deleted and I had to replace it with images 😭😭 and Sorolla is spelt by mistake as Serolla in the subtitles. So many of my Filipino followers kept mentioning Fernando Amorsolo (1892 - 1972) , that I had to post this video sooner than I had planned. 🤭 🇵🇭🎨🖼️Nicknamed the Grand Old Man of Philippine Art, he was the first National Artist of the Philippines for Painting.His Planting Rice series which appeared on posters and tourist brochures became one of the most iconic images of the Commonwealth of the Philippines.Amorsolo’s personal life was as expansive as his artistic output. He had a very large family, fathering children across multiple relationships over the course of his life. Several of his children would later become artists themselves. Amorsolo garnered numerous accolades and awards, among them the Gold Medal of Recognition from the UNESCO National Commission.Even in his later years, while suffering with diabetes, cataracts, arthritis, headaches, dizziness, he would still paint.
