Ready? Or not?
Screenshot of an essay titled 'The Ruckus Maker AI Readiness Audit'. The text outlines five key considerations for schools to thrive in an AI-driven world. 1. Learning Personalization: Questions whether AI is used to differentiate learning or if a one-size-fits-all approach is still being applied. 2. Teacher Empowerment: Discusses the importance of teachers collaborating with AI in lesson planning rather than resisting it. 3. Human-Centered Learning: Highlights the need to focus on human relationships and creativity over rote learning. 4. Culture of Innovation: Emphasizes the significance of encouraging experimentation in schools. 5. Ethical Leadership: Stresses the role of schools in teaching responsible AI use and ethical considerations. The conclusion calls for schools to view AI as a tool for enhancing human impact.

Are you leading above or below the line?
A screenshot essay titled 'Most people don’t realize they’re leading from below the line.' The body of the essay discusses insights gained from the book 'The Great CEO Within,' highlighting the importance of recognizing whether one is leading 'below the line' (closed, reactive, defensive) or 'above the line' (open, curious, committed to learning). It provides a checklist for 'conscious leadership' which includes principles such as taking radical responsibility, learning through curiosity, and demonstrating integrity. The author encourages self-reflection by asking readers to identify which principle resonates most with them.

I'm looking for these kind of leaders 👇
A screenshot essay titled 'Do you know any leaders like this?' discusses the characteristics of exceptional leaders. The body highlights traits including self-reflective, growth-oriented, givers not takers, dedicated to time investment, active participation, and being big dreamers. Each trait is elaborated upon, noting that these leaders identify issues, embrace creativity, share resources, commit weekly to development, engage actively, and aim to enhance the educational experience for students and families. The essay culminates with an invitation to join 'The Ruckus Maker Mastermind,' encouraging potential members to apply to transform education practices.

This is low-tech but it works to keep your desk clear—print the instructions & labels now, then set up when you’re back in your office.

If education ain't a bit disruptive, then what are the students really learning? Most principals are trained to be administrators. They excel at following manuals and maintaining what exists. Our students deserve different.

I am not a Play-It-Safe Principal • I don't blindly follow policy manuals • I don't maintain the status quo • I don't sacrifice student engagement for test scores Instead, I make a ruckus

The outdated principal path: • Follow the district manual • Manage everything yourself • Focus on test scores and compliance All that hard work for burned out teachers and disengaged students?

Remember: Transformation doesn't require reinventing the wheel. Sometimes the best solutions are already happening right under your nose. 🎯

The key to success? With every action you take, figure out which one of these steps you are stuck at. And then make a plan to progress to the next level.

Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 10/12/2024
Once you get there, you can then focus on: • Scaling what works (apply the same principles across departments) • Supporting organic growth (provide resources without controlling the process) • Celebrating wins (showcase how natural collaboration improves outcomes)

Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 10/12/2024
So, here's School Transformation 101. • Find what's already working • Document exactly why it works (shared spaces led to organic peer learning) • Remove the barriers to natural cooperation (no forced meetings or top-down mandates)

Don't Overcomplicate It Most people overcomplicate creating change in schools. Especially when trying to transform resistant teachers into innovative educators.

Want to be a truly effective leader? Close your door. Set office hours. Let your team struggle a bit. Because a school that falls apart without your constant presence isn't a well-led school --- it's a house of cards waiting to collapse.
120
Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
Here's what most principals miss: The job isn't to be needed. It's to build a team that rarely needs you. Your open door might make you feel valuable, but it's actually signaling to your staff that they can't handle challenges on their own.
120
Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
That's when it hit me: My constant availability wasn't supporting my staff. It was infantilizing them. Every interruption I welcomed was a potential growth moment I stole from someone else.
120
Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
A few years ago, a teacher knocked on my door during my designated planning time. Instead of my usual "Come in!" I stayed focused on finalizing our new project-based learning initiative. Two hours later, I learned she'd solved the issue herself --- and felt proud of the solution.

Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
Until the day my mentor walked into my office, looked at the chaos around me --- three teachers waiting outside, 72 unread emails, cold coffee, and uneaten lunch --- and said something I'll never forget: "You're not leading a school. You're running a walk-in clinic."
120
Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
Teachers could walk in anytime. Parents got my personal cell. I answered emails at midnight. That's what great principals do, right?
110
Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
The best thing I ever did as a principal was start ignoring my teachers. I used to wear my 24/7 availability like a badge of honor.

Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
Remember: A school that can't function without you isn't a testament to your leadership. It's a warning sign. Tag a principal who needs to hear this today. 👇

Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
Want to break free? Start here: • Map your Monday (30 minutes of planning) • Transfer trust (clear delegation framework) • Release control (and resist the urge to micromanage)
100
Danny Bauer @heydannybauer.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
But here's the uncomfortable truth: Your 24/7 availability isn't making you a better leader. It's creating a dependency that's killing both your effectiveness AND your school's potential.
