2/ Recent AHA and ACC guidelines recommend using PREVENT to assess cardiovascular risk and guide personalized treatment decisions. Embedding the equations into workflows in Epic gives clinicians easy access to an up-to-date assessment without opening a separate tool.

Over the last year, patients were seen an average of 30 days sooner with Fast Pass in MyChart, an automated way of keeping schedules full by notifying patients of open upcoming appointment slots. Patients accepted earlier visits 8 million times.

Nothing says “Summer’s Ending” like having to say goodbye to your interns. But they’re leaving in style — by demoing their R&D projects to Epic staff. From rethinking the Problem List to creating agents that build other agents, they’ve packed a lot of innovation into just a few months. Congrats!

We've been converting parts of campus into pollinator meadows. It’s working. The rusty-patched bumblebee — protected under the Endangered Species Act & down 87% across its historical range — was first confirmed on campus in 2023. One sighting that year. Three in 2024. Last year: more than ten.

For the last five years, we’ve been installing bird dots — a patterned window film that makes glass visible to birds in flight. More than 33,000 square feet of it is up across campus. Bird strikes have dropped sharply. Some skybridges went from multiple collisions a year to zero.

Part of campus is a working farm. The land has been farmed since the 1800s — settlers planted orchards along the hills of the Sugar River valley, and the apple orchard on campus today is an homage to those early days. Sheep, cows, goats, and a donkey graze the pastures in the summertime.

Hundreds of cubic yards of leaves from the city of Verona are collected each year and turned into mulch for the campus landscape. Grass clippings stay in place as natural mulch. Soil is sampled every year so only the fertilizer each area actually needs gets applied. The goal is a closed loop.

Yard waste stays on site. After it decomposes, it’s spread on a campus hayfield as compost. That hayfield is doing three jobs at once: compost on top, a geothermal borefield underneath, and solar panels overhead. Electricity and heating/cooling for the campus come from the same patch of ground.

Above ground, three acres of wildflowers and native grasses make up a gravel garden that needs virtually no supplemental watering. It's among the largest of its kind in the country.

Even the salt matters. One teaspoon is enough to make five gallons of water toxic for freshwater ecosystems. Since 2016, salt use on campus is down 70%, even as the campus has grown.

Any excess flows through a system of stormwater features where sediment settles out and the water cools before it reaches the Sugar River, a cold-water trout stream along the low edge of the property. The goal is to keep warm, sediment-laden water out of the watershed.

Most of the parking on campus is underground. Not just to save space — it means there aren't 80+ acres of asphalt baking in the sun. The structures are topped with green roofs — vegetative cover that lets rainwater filter through the soil and back into the ground instead of running off.

We set our prairies on fire! On purpose! Prescribed burns are how oak savannas and tallgrass prairies survived for thousands of years — fire clears the old growth, returns nutrients to the soil, and keeps the landscape open.

There's intention to the plant selection. Close to buildings: aesthetic components are emphasized while supporting diverse plant ecosystems. As you move outward: wilder meadows take more of the space. The outer ring of campus contains prairies, woodlands, and oak savanna.

Epic @hey.epic.com · 23/04/2026
It's not just the plants that benefit. Native insects sometimes only feed on specific plants as larvae. More diverse plants mean more insect diversity, which means more bird diversity. A more diverse landscape better sustains itself as an ecosystem, not just a garden.

Many plants on campus are native. They can handle Wisconsin weather: wet springs, dry summers. They often need less water, less fertilizer, and less maintenance.

More than 1,700 plant species and cultivars grow across the property. Campus sits on the edge of the Driftless Area — land the last glaciers never touched. Multiple ecosystems meet here: oak savanna, tallgrass prairie, sedge meadow, hardwood forest, and wetlands.
