There should be extra penalties for someone (mainly thinking about politicians here ) who commits a crime or ethics violation, denies these allegations, and is then later proven to have done the thing. I’m so tired of “they’ve denied the allegations“ as meaning any damn thing.

I’ve been thinking about other progressive eras in American politics, and it seems those were possible mainly because they happened in an era where white people were OK to help other white people. Once helping “society“ meant helping non-whites, it became much more of a struggle.
