He never saw the video. I think maybe his PR people worried it might impact his chances of being a star. Think he’d made some comment about someone who had been dropped from the film he’d just done in another interview. But then why let him do this one at all?

It came to me one moment before I said it. Delightfully risky joke. How would he take it. Huge laugh from audience and he agreed that it was true! He was so good on the podcast. I still don’t understand what the problem actually was. One day you’ll get to hear it.

The joke was about him acting all giddy and excited to be nominated and then some of the press saying this was a tactic to make him win. He confirmed this was annoying and not true. I said “yes, I mean if you were that good an actor you’d have won the Oscar!”
