We'd like to thank everyone who came out to the Cultural Contemplation Space launch this weekend. It was great to see everyone come out and learn about #JapaneseCanadian #heritage in our #community and to see how children as well as adults interacted with the space! Thank you all!
The newly constructed Cultural Contemplation Space tells the story of the Japanese Canadian community of Abbotsford. The garden features two didactic panels, culturally sympathetic trees and plants, as well as a bridge spanning a dry riverbed. Five upright stones along with smaller stepping stones represent the three generations of Japanese Canadians who built their lives here before they were uprooted and sent to internment.

Throughout Clayburn, Peardonville, and Mt. Lehman, farmers formed cooperative groups known as nokai, sharing labour, equipment, and knowledge to help one another succeed. The nokai reflected the belief that neighbours could accomplish more by working together than by working alone. #Abbotsford
