Against an off-white background, text in Henry’s distinctive hand-lettered, block capitals reads, “Connected communities threaten fascists.” Beneath this, an illustration of a network with many colorful nodes.Against an off-white background, text in Henry’s distinctive hand-lettered, block capitals reads, “Terrify a billionaire. Befriend your neighbors.” Beneath this, a small illustration of a tupperware of leftovers with a little post-it note on it.

Against a pastel blue backdrop are two hand-drawn orange chickens, in Henry’s distinctive style. The first says, “How are some humans constrained without the use of cages?” and the second replies, “Many are kept docile through the misdirection of their anger.”

Like @prisonculture.bsky.social, I've been worried about the ways popular myths of the civil rights movement make it hard to see how to struggle today. What we get wrong about the Montgomery bus boycott – and what we can learn from it | Jeanne Theoharis
The movement’s success was never a given. It took much longer and required tremendous sacrifice without certainty it would work

A hand-drawn image of two bears, an adult and a cute cub, talking against a pastel green backdrop. The adult says, “By entering a state of inactivity, we conserve energy to survive the harsh winter.” The cub replies, “Facing rising fascism, human inactivity will not achieve analogous goals. Only by acting urgently, can they hope to survive.”

Against an off-white backdrop, in Henry’s distinctive hand-lettered, block capitals, text reads, “Complici-tea [that is, the word complicity, with its final syllable replaced with the word, tea (the hot drink)] A warm beverage drunk to distract from the fact of one’s inaction contributing to the continuation of a genocide.” Beneath this is a hand-drawn image of a steaming mug of tea.

A hand-drawn simple line image. Atop a tall, brutal concrete wall - the wall that imprisons the people of Gaza - stand two white pigeons. One of them says, “Is there a level of explicitness in their genocidal project that would force the West to stop running cover for Israel?” And the other replies, “If starving the population, blocking aid, then shooting them at a trap baited with food, wasn’t the line, there is no line.”

Text in Henry’s distinctive, hand-written, block capital style reads: “Things I hoped had already been established: Genocide is bad. Opposing genocide is good.”

TIL of the word "silversprights" which refers to the cutlery you lay on the table but then don't use. The stuff that wants to go back in the drawer and not to be washed up.

Who put the sadists in charge?
Against pastel green, a hand-drawn scene of two ants talking as a magnifying glass, held by a hand off-screen, focuses the light of a sun to create a burning point that’s heading their way. The first says, “Inflicting suffering provides, for cowards, an experience of power to temporarily obscure their own fractured sense of self.” And the other replies, “Far better to be small of stature than small of spirit.”

Went for a walk that felt like Spring, and had to make this simple thing.
On a green backdrop, a hand-drawn illustration of a flower with a beautiful white head, a snowdrop (in the UK, the first flowers that signal Winter’s end). White, handwritten text reads: Every year, when the first flowers raise their delicate heads from the dark soil of late winter, I'm reminded how accessible are the joys of blissfully simple human experience, and disgusted anew at the horrors of domination chosen instead.

A delicately hand-drawn selection of food, arranged in a pleasing crush of colours, as if arranged in a still-life on a table. Many colours and sizes of tomatoes, garlic, onions, lemons, olive oil in glass bottles and bread. Above the food is text in Henry’s distinctive block capitals that reads, “Would risk it all for everyone to be able to eat good food with good friends.”

Among a crowded collection of variously sized and coloured city pigeons, wavy hand-written, block capital text in Henry’s distinctive style reads, “The enemy is not the bird who arrives from elsewhere but he who hoards all the crumb.”

Against an off-white backdrop is a hand-drawn image of a dog, a Jack Russell cross (small, cute, and protective-looking). Text above them reads, “Yeah mate, we’d all like to go back to bed and snuggle up, but there are people we love who need protecting”.

What if the existence of Palestinians in Palestine isn’t the problem, but the 76 years of occupation, apartheid, imprisonment, displacement, dehumanisation, and genocide they’ve suffered for insisting they not be separated from their home?

This. I am rereading @henryjgarrett.bsky.social’s How To Be Kinder after hearing @brennanleemulligan.bsky.social reference meta ethics on the @worldsbeyondnumber.bsky.social fireside chat. It all returns to empathy and kindness. Deep, radical empathy.

Against a pastel green backdrop is a hand-drawn image of a fawn (a young deer) standing in a splay-legged pose as though he’s just trying to find his feet. Hand-written text around the deer reads, “If it’s naive to think a better world possible then call me Bambi”.
