transit, gambling, and sustainable suburbanism

Ultimately this wouldn't be a permanent situation since people would adjust, move out of the area, or not make those trips. People are worse off without transit, and the Bay Area would turn into one of the best transit areas to something like Dallas in one fell swoop, but the voters can choose.

At least stock market losses are tax deductible but gambling losses aren't.

There were also about three dozen people in the breakout room as well recusing. I suppose one could watch without voting which is what I wanted to do, but I ended up popping into the recusal room because I didn’t want to be put on the spot with a vote.

El-Sayed has come out and said he is a physician, at least until he was killed out about it. This is an interesting fact that @juddlegum.bsky.social pulled out, but ultimately I don’t see how it is particularly relevant.

Henry Fung @henryfung.bsky.social · 17h
This is sort of the counter argument of Republicans claiming Abdul El-Sayed isn’t a doctor or physician because he never took a residency. Zacharia didn’t pass the bar and El-Sayed never passed a board. Either both are fine to call themselves that based on their education or neither.

This was on news radio (KNX) so they must think this argument plays well to 45+ centrists

Key pt for those who want to cut transit funding because agencies are "inefficient." A big growth in transit costs since 2020 has been security, partly due to pressure from some of the same people who now want that to be evidence of inefficiency. By @idothethinking.bsky.social. Link in 1st reply.

Plenty of stuff from the no side like this one: envirovoters.org/what-is-prop...

Proposition 45: What It Means for Clean Air, Water, and Your Health
Proposition 45 would roll back California's clean air, clean water, and public health protections for polluting projects—and could cost taxpayers $100 million a year.

Doesn’t Prop 45 enable warehouse developments too? Should focus on that. envirovoters.org/what-is-prop...

Oh great, you've thought of a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet. Too bad it perpetuates harmful stereotypes about dogs and foxes. I hope it was worth it

I just listened to a No on 45 commercial with the wrong framing, saying that nothing in Proposition 45 requires lower rents or how prices and all the profits go to developers. It really should focus on projects people don’t like such as data centers and wider freeways.

Two valuable things that did go away with twitter and haven't been otherwise replicated were a public customer grievance line (complaining to Brands) and government agency/transit updates. Just part of the massive erosion of accountability .

Bumping up every weekday 15 minute route to weekends at 15 minutes makes it a lot more useful for occasional riders as well as the transit dependent, as weekend ridership has recovered faster than weekday ridership. www.vta.org/projects/tra...

The Zoom meeting room apparently has been enlarged and there are specific instructions linking one unique link to one vote. They also placed cookies to prevent you from registering multiple times (although you can still use multiple browsers).

To a certain extent you do see this for people trying to qualify for paratransit, especially when a paratransit card means free fares on fixed route transit. Obviously costs much less of course.

It's in the summary argument.
Prop. 43 protects taxpayers by restoring Proposition 13’s two-thirds vote requirement to pass local special taxes, including sales taxes, real estate taxes and utility taxes. Courts have allowed special interests to pass earmarked tax increases with fewer votes. Prop. 43 closes this loophole, protecting taxpayers, homeowners and renters. Vote yes.

Proposed cuts would reduce service 29% during the week and 40% on the weekend, prompting some to worry that the agency could be facing a “death spiral.”

The RTM measure is pretty flexible to allow for repaving streets where transit operates. A fully formed Santa Clara County specific plan which threw in some road repaving on major streets might get more of the car heads to chip in, but heretofore it has been vague there.

It was the KX, you could always bring your luggage on the local bus. Or you could ride south to Millbrae, reboard the other direction, and just leave your luggage through the airport, which was sometimes less time consuming than the Colma shuttle pre airport BART.

The core of San Diego is much denser than Los Angeles, the airport is basically downtown, and the eastern edge of development in El Cajon is only 15 miles from downtown.

San Diego actually builds tons of housing so it is cheaper, distances to things are less than in Los Angeles, and the sunshine tax in pay has largely been eliminated over the years with the rise of tech related jobs.

I follow the Vegas market a lot and the dumpy condos a few miles from the Strip remain in the $200k range while Summerlin prices keep going up by 5% a year, even in old Summerlin, as long as it is west of Hualapai which is where the HOA ends.
