I'm a child of the 60s. A spoilt Nordic brat. The evils of empire building was taught in school, a reminiscent of the past. We now have 4 loose cannons violently disagreeing with that consensus. Trump, Putin, Netanyahu and Xi. All men in their 70s fearing their own mortality and craving respect.

For reasons unknown to me I've been listening to podcasts about NATO and Europe. I find it somewhat unnerving how often the Nordics are mentioned. As a Swede we've become a accustomed to pottering around minding our own business. That has changed, to put it mildly.

In UK, 30% of the votes can give you a majority (FPTP). In Europe (Proportional representation) 30% of the vote, not even close. In UK, Reform could win, in Europe they would need an alliance to reach +50% to win.

When I was young, religious faith was something you read about in school, a historical curiosity. It was OK for ppl to have faith as long as their particular version of faith didn't shape society. In all fairness, I'm from one of the most secular countries on earth, Sweden.

As a foreigner living in UK, I struggle to understand this mythical "special relationship." It appears to exist in the minds of a certain type of Brit.
