just logged into linkedin for the first time in weeks and this was one of my notifications (????). I'm sure there's someone studying the ways corporate media and platforms uptake the use of (queer) AAVE 😵‍💫

So very lucky to live in a world where George Washington Carver first existed 🥹 Amazing exhibit on his life and work as an artist and scientist currently on display at the California African American Museum in LA

On the day of Daniel Penny’s acquittal for the murder of Jordan Neely… and in honor of Nikki Giovanni’s passing, here is one of my fave poems by her — Allowables
Poem title: ALLOWABLES

I killed a spider
Not a murderous brown recluse
Nor even a black widow
And if the truth were told this Was only a small
Sort of papery spider
Who should have run
When I picked up the book
But she didn't
And she scared me And I smashed her
I don't think I'm allowed
To kill something
Because I am
Frightened

Been reading this Baldwin poem almost daily for two weeks now. The first time I read it, I teared up
Lord,
when you send the rain
think about it please
a little?

do
not get carried away
by the sound of falling water,
the marvelous light
on the falling water.
I
am beneath the water.
It falls with great force,
and the light

Blinds
me to the light.
