just last year moving fast led to them laying off too many teachers & needing to rehire this year. Why so fast? - plus so much more. Sorry to drop a thread on you 😅 there's just a lot of alternative options & reasons to slow down & try them before damaging communities through rapid closures.

empty buildings, why not sell those instead of closing schools to sell? - PPS has also hired 79 new upper admin roles since 2019, without showing need, why not reduce those instead of laying off teachers? - also this is backed by a privitization movement - also PPS is moving super fast when, (cont)

- some of the schools closing are actually overenrolled, not under. Why close those in the name of under-enrollment? - enrollment has been dropping due to class sizes being too large - how will making them bigger help that? - closures are being blamed on a budget deficit too, but PPS has (cont)

part of the problem is that when presented as a simple math issue like that - which is how the school board is presenting it - it makes sense to many people. But that's ignoring a ton of information that isn't getting as much spotlight. Like:

hey all, just a heads up to my artist peers- this is all AI slop, I would avoid this. It isn't adobe code, it's just vibecoded to emulate their features.

for so long I lived in cities with strong textile districts and I'd scoff at Joanns for years now I've lived in areas lacking that luxury and wow WOW I miss Joanns on the regular

there are so, SO many free and cheap design resources. Images, fonts, templates, programs galore. New lists ranking options, collecting links, every day. There's simply no need to choose slop instead.

yeah I can see a choice in the future between a charter with 0 accountability or transparency nearby or a long bus ride to an overcrowded, undersupported school and - this sucks! It sucks! It just doesn't have to be this way! There's rallies/board meeting attendence today if you can make it

When a community loses its school, it’s very hard to get it back. Portland doesn’t have to accept these closures. Sign the @pdxteachers.bsky.social petition! Tell PPS to listen to teachers and families and find a better way. secure.ngpvan.com/XyC1n1LFiUCZ...

from what I've been reading, it's a privitization movement disguised. Folks have been pearl clutching about pulling their kids to private schools because of too-large class sizes so surely increasing class sizes will improve enrollment, right? 🙄 I'm sorry we're not doing better by your kids.

so Portland Public Schools is just gonna decimate my immediate neighborhood culture, damage my/many children's education, & embrace a death spiral, boo-hooing that they have no other choice because finances, while giving the superintendent a big raise & ignoring any other options hate this for us

our kids' school outsources to an app that parents can volunteer contact info to. Some people are in there filling out every available line, some the mimimum. If you're not on there you miss many school updates & your kid will miss party invites since those happen over parent text/email.

y'know, that might help. Mine are brilliant at imagining far worse dire outcomes for characters than any movie we'd watch would actually include (and then getting a corresponding level of upset) so cutting that off at the pass might work.

- some musicals like Singin' in the Rain & The Wizard of Oz also ok - Muppets hit or miss on scariness (I know) - can't be too rude, too scary, too violent, have too much meanness or fighting or they'll reject it - I would like to not be bored to tears Please help, my family media is starving

Ok, seeking family movie recs with tough example parameters: - Wallace & Gromit/Beauty & the Beast tend to be too stressful - KPop Demon Hunters has far too terrifying emotional stakes (demons ok, risk of emotional ostracization Too Much) - Some 1930s films like Scarlet Pimpernel / Pygmalion ok??
