@jerf.xyz I hope you get to do some coverage on the new Pokemon pinball table. I was stoked to see it at MGC and had a lot of fun with it!

Friendly reminder that you can ask your library nicely and they will buy a book you want to read if they don't already have it. Glad to have How a Game Lives by @jacobgeller.com added to my local library.

At the behest of my friends I have redone my 9 to be more about formative games rather than a mix of formative and fave:

1. First game I remember being jealous of another kid for having but he was nice and let me play during latch key.
2. Up there for most hours sunk in couch multiplayer especially with my dad and sister. I will always favor this Mario Kart even if 8 is objectively better.
3. Spent hours trying and failing when I was young and felt phenomenal to beat when I beat it as a teenager
4. Outside of all the reasons people love this game, this was the first game I gave a controller to someone who never really played games and they loved it and I still think about the joy that brought me.
5. The best game by the best dev and I played from day 1 of early access December 2018 and got to watch all my friends adore it over time
6. Gen 2 hard not to pick, but I'm a gen 3 boy at heart
7. I played this game 3 times to see all the options. A formative game for a formative time in my life.
8. This and the previous THPS games shaped a lot of my music taste to this day and I love score attack games.
9. The game that taught me I love this kind of game - the ones where you can technically beat it if you know the answers from the start, but all you lack is knowledge. So many great conversations over this game and I'll still watch a streamer play for the first time to feel the feelings again

My 9 games of all time I guess!! No particular order:
FTL, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Zelda: Link Between Worlds, Journey, Hades, Silksong, Smash Bros Ultimate, THPS3, and Outer Wilds

Fitting that I downloaded Steam for Valve games. I played all these on a 2009 MacBook Pro in college. PvZ and Trine are some bangin' indie OGs too.

My first 5 games were solid. Orange Box, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, Left 4 Dead 2, Plants vs. Zombies, and Trine.

You don't have to read my whole GOTY post (but can if ya want) - here's my closing thoughts on Erdtree:

There are few DLCs that I've ever played that I would recommend higher than this one, given you enjoy its base game. The only DLC I've played that I’d say is more important to experience is Outer Wilds’s Echoes of the Eye. While neither are strictly necessary to have a full and satisfying experience with each game, these two DLC experiences are of the highest caliber when it comes to additional content for a game. Even calling it “additional content” feels inane when I feel this is a full experience that rivals the base game.
