I wrote an automated accessibility audit that checks if elements have a focus indicator. As far as I know, no other commercial a11y tools automate this due to the computational overhead. It will be source-available soon, but for now I have written about it here: www.a11ypulse.com/blog/how-to-...

Diagram of the two-stage audit: Tab moves focus to an element, Stage 1 compares its focus-relevant styles before and after focus and passes if any changed, and when nothing changes Stage 2 falls back to comparing screenshots of the element focused versus unfocused
