bought this super cute little plate at the harvest festival (which was cool but also quite overstimulating)

handmade oval ceramic plate with a small cat painted at either end, one solid blue and the other tabby with solid blue points (ears, tail and paws).

also here are some favourite things i saw at the museum (i am not including the vhs & audio cassettes. which made me feel decrepit tbh)

a reconstruction of a stone age woman's garments and adornments based on findings from a grave at the Zvejnieki burial site. it's a very beautiful outfit of layered furs and hides in a shawl and tunic type arrangement, with leg warmers and shoes. for decoration there is a large ring of amber as necklace pendant, and many large tear-shaped amber beads in an apron arrangement at the front.

spear heads, sword hilt crossguards, a lock & key, a sword. from 11th-13th century. there's a partial horn at the back but i forgot to note its details sorry!

iron window bars from 16th century Riga castle. they may not seem very exciting to you but i never saw things like this up close before!!

a late 15th century helmet, 16th century gauntlet, late 15th century shoulder armour, and a 16th century heraldic shield from a chanfron. way behind and a bit obscured are some caltrops and a crossbow

got fun merch from the museum :)

four printouts of medieval-style drawings (all by artist Kristīna Rubīne). top left is a castle with two courtyards. top right is two ladies, one with her skirts held in her hand and the other holding a large bowl (i think it is a lady and her servant). bottom left is a cloaked priest or monk with a rosary and a bible. bottom right is two lads caring for a horse, with a knight riding by in the distance. i think these were intended to be colouring-in sheets for children but i wanted them and they were free so i grabbed them!!

a small sketchbook with a medieval-style drawing on the front (think this is also by artist Kristīna Rubīne) of a seated woman combing her hair and looking into a hand mirror. i don't need another sketchbook! but now i have another one!

a grey bag with a medieval-style drawing printed in white (i think also by artist Kristīna Rubīne) of three people at a table playing some sort of game with dice and tokens.

very taken with this building i saw out on walkies today, the details are so pretty

photo of a four-storey building in the National Romantic variant of Art Nouveau, with a gabled roof and scrolled, spiraled architectural decorations influenced by folk art, as well as a keyhole shaped entryway.

black ink gel pen & marker doodle of a flower with an arrow behind it on a black background. on the top left and bottom right corners are an encroaching leaflike pattern.

black ink gel pen & marker doodle of a bunch of sticks tied together with thin rope on a black background, with a crescent moon shape at the bottom and 3 orbs along each side. this is inside a plain frame with simple five-point stars in it.

forgot to add, these are a couple of #wip pictures for it i think something i learned from this is maybe i need to go thru more stages of planning between these points so that i know what i am doing & don't get too carried away with ideas

extremely rough & simple ballpoint sketch of the crown/shackle/apple idea. as well as getting the initial idea down i was trying to work out whether i wanted to do landscape or portrait orientation. it turned out very different to this! but also it's the same!

underpencil, and some ink, on what would end up being the finished piece. the frame has its line art in place but there's still quite a bit to work out for the main drawing. i didn't really plan it enough, and probably should have done a bit more thumbnailing to hash it out. oops.

finally finished this today. from a drawing idea from a community i am in, using the words crown, apple, shackle. #art #inkdrawing #darkart #fantasyart

a black ink fineliner drawing. a skeleton-lich thing dressed in a tall crown and regal garments holds a dagger in one hand and offers a slice of apple to a prisoner sitting on a stool, who turns their head away and holds a shackled hand up in refusal. behind them a cavernous drain carries black sludge with apples floating in it out of the wall, he sludge dripping down to a large basin which is mostly obscured by the figures.

the scene is framed by marginalia of halved apples in each corner on a bushel of leaves, tall candles on each side, a dagger at the top and severed hands at the bottom kept together by shackles and chain with two slices of apple between them.

if you're thinking i did too much, you are correct. i need to learn to edit.

If you see this, post your art with marginalia! this is a piece i made for my birthday this year. i would love to do more drawings like this, i enjoyed making it very much even though it took me a long time!

a black ink fineliner & marker drawing, with pseudo-medieval and witchy vibes. the centerpiece is a person in a flowy dress sitting on a wooden bench in front of a stone wall and a window with the night sky visible. the person is holding a dagger in one hand, and above the other hovers an anatomical heart. this is framed in a slightly cracked gothic-inspired window, around which is a larger frame on a solid black background, with spiraling vines (the top and bottom shape into heart forms), a rose in each corner, as well as a rabbit and a cat either side of the arch of the gothic window.

migraine coming on so here is a drawing of a cow from a little while back. i ended up colouring the border in with alternating pink & turquoise, but prefer it plain like this tbh #art #inkdrawing #b&wart

im currently very bad at drawing vehicles tho would like to git gud at bob semple tanks. "numerous design flaws and practical difficulties" ok well same

photo of an old bob semple light tank. it is made out of tractor parts and corrugated manganese plating, with some bren guns. it looks like an unwieldy piece of shit (i love it).

something from march, to cleanse the palate #art #b&wart #inkdrawing

Black ink fineliner and marker drawing of a hand, holding up a hollowed animal horn to collect dark liquid that drips from outside the top edge of the paper. in the background is a bee broodcomb full of eggs and larvae (but I didn't do a very good job of depicting that).

dont think i will get anything done today so. have some woims from a couple months ago #art #darkart #inkdrawing

Black gel ink drawing of half of a face looking directly ahead, long hair flowing to the left, partially obscured by a group of wormlike creatures coming up from the bottom left of the frame. the face is simple line art without much rendering, and the worms have stippled shading.

another one of the older inktober prompts. "cozy" this time~ #art #inkdrawing #inktober52

Black ink drawing. a person (or elf? fairy?) sitting on a couch, wrapped in a blanket, reading a book. they are wearing thick socks and leggings and their long hair is down. there is a cat relaxing by one of their legs on the cushion.

i got my cup of lemon & honey tea time to get cosy & settle in for movie

Someone's (not mine, i don't know whose sorry!) fanmade poster for Backrooms. They have photoshopped together promo shots of the lead actors, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, to be sort of leaning against one another casually and smiling against the yellow wallpaper backdrop. It gives the vibe of an early 2000s buddy comedy or rom-com. The logline reads "Selling furniture just got a little more interesting..."
