Buy your digital comics from Sweet. It’s beautiful and run by people who love comics and are more interested in good design and good features more than selling out.

Rabbit opened his valise on the train and found that his drivel had begun its whine. The landscape rushed by in a blur. “Maybe I could give this up and till that heartland soil.” No. He was born for something else. He lit a cigarette and thought about seducing the teenager in the next aisle.

A pivotal moment in how I understood the world was noting the difference in what I was told Gloria Steinem's message was, and what she was actually saying. The gulf between the two was rather her point. She always spoke in a clear, direct way. It's almost like it took work to misunderstand her.

If you are a team of illustrators or artists and you have “brothers” in your name, I’m probably going to be a fan. Hernández brothers, the Brothers Hildebrandt, The Etherington Brothers.

For many years, I’ve held a pet theory that cultural consumers can be grouped into two broad categories: Primary Source People and Secondary Source People. The former are the book lovers, cinephiles, archive perusers, and history buffs who grew to love their areas of study because of the specific objects that constitute the field: the…

Have to reshare this every time I see it. Raymond Chandler mocking science fiction in 1953 and sounding cool as hell. He should have written some space stories.
Did you ever read what they call Science Fiction? It’s a scream. It is written like this:

“I checked out with K19 on Aldabaran III, and stepped out through the crummalite hatch on my 22 Model Sirus Hardtop. I cocked the timejector in secondary and waded through the bright blue manda grass. My breath froze into pink pretzels. I flicked on the heat bars and the Brylls ran swiftly on five legs using their other two to send out crylon vibrations. The pressure was almost unbearable, but I caught the range on my wrist computer through the transparent cysicites. I pressed the trigger. The thin violet glow was icecold against the rust-colored mountains. The Brylls shrank to half an inch long and I worked fast stepping on them with the poltex. But it wasn’t enough. The sudden brightness swung me around and the Fourth Moon had already risen. I had exactly four seconds to hot up the disintegrator and Google⁵ had told me it wasn’t enough. He was right.”

They pay brisk money for this crap?

Then we have opinion Powerball. If you hit the big prize you live opinion free your whole life. OR, you make everybody else have your opinions for twenty-four hours, OR you make everyone have no opinions for twenty-four hours. Twenty four hours without opinions. You can't measure that kind of wealth

Okay so new law where we all have to give our opinions to the person to our left for a week. I mean physically left. The person to your right gives you theirs. Everybody swaps.

This drives me crazy. First, the way you get good at making things short is practicing writing short things. Second, incentivizing length goes against Pascal's "I have made this longer than usual because I have not had time to make it shorter" maxim. Good thinking benefits from strong editing.

I took some pictures in the style of street candids, but sharing them feels disrespectful to the hard work they put in. Instead, here are my two favorite cosplays I witnessed with my own two eyes.
An image depicting cosplay. An very large (10’ tall or so) inflatable representation of Trogdor the Burninator from Strong Bad’s emails. Cosplay of the polka-dotted drummer Klek de Poitrine of French-Canadian microtonal all stars Angine de Poitrine. He stands in a hall and make a triangle symbol with both hands at the camera.

They published the complete book verbatim, then added AI-generated art and new AI words, entirely without permission.
