#inspo day five: has anyone else been unable to stop thinking about Wake Up Dead Man since they saw it? Pride, Lucifer's fall, religious leaders and their influence and how they use it. Some lies are told to ease suffering or avoid conflict. Are all lies wrong? What counts as blasphemy?

only somewhat related, please look at this boxing ring crank toy I stumbled on in my search. this is SO cool www.si.edu/object/boxin...

very elaborate sculpture made of wood and fabric depicting little figures boxing, with a rooster (I think) overseeing the competition.

#inspo for day four, I was definitely thinking about dancing toys coming to life (The Nutcracker), but also about humans building giant robots to fight invading aliens (Pacific Rim), and robots who resent being treated as objects by their creators (Ex Machina), and boundaries between object + person

Dreams of course can also be aspirational, providing motivation to work toward a goal (see: just about any shounen protagonist). Dreams can also be comforting, and an escape from a harsher reality. Most of all I like how this theme can sit at either end of two extremes, both scary and comforting

#inspo day three: In Your Dreams / Allure. Fredy Krueger invades dreams and is invincible there, Sirens sing to lure sailors to their deaths, and there are many characters with different kinds of mind control abilities or ways they influence perception of reality 🧠 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...

#inspo day two: Covet and Possession. Dragon mythology often involves amassing a huge hoard of treasure, but I was also thinking about how crows collect shiny trinkets, and possession by malevolent spirits or demons 🐉 www.tolkienestate.com/painting/the... 👻 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_...

#inspo a little last minute, but day one's theme is Devour / Parasitic! Vampires are creatures that feed off of another life form's essence to survive, and the xenomorph symbolizes rape and pregnancy: both fit the theme 🩸 culturacolectiva.com/en/art/vampi... 👽 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erotic_...

how about some lovecraftian monsters? Lovecraft may have sucked bigtime but he sure developed some interesting and horrifying creatures. shoggoth, cthulu, azathoth 📝 fictionhorizon.com/15-most-terr...

for hybrids, one of the creatures from mythology I thought might be fun is centaurs. there are lots of neat depictions that would be fun to draw inspiration from 📷 Augustin Courtet, Centauress and Faun 🍯 Bell-Krater with the Centaur Chiron Accompanied by a Satyr and Two Youths 🖼 Fantasia

this was for another fandom, but i've always been fascinated by the idea of sentient space ships! space whales that can be used as transport, or some form of advanced ship and computer that gain sentience, that kind of thing. This is one of the concepts I had in mind for the non-organic theme 😈🐋🌌

HELLO HODAG, MY NEW OBSESSION... omg look at this incredible lad. From wiki: It was "the fiercest, strangest, most frightening monster ever to set razor sharp claws on the earth. It became extinct after its main food source, all white bulldogs, became scarce in the area." oh i love him!

the hodag, a bull-like creature with razor-sharp spines on its back.

We're a little more than two months away from #HellaMonsterWeek, does anyone have any favorite cryptids or monsters? Apart from dragons, I've always been particularly fond of Nessie, gentle giant lake critter just chillin in a pond 😌

The "surgeon's photograph" of 1934, now known to have been a hoax. Depicts what appears to be a dark, blurry creature with a long neck rising out of the water, allegedly the Loch Ness Monster.
