I actually need to fix this, but some of my Websites are generated by a static site generator I wrote in 2003 or sth: StaticCMS. It's essentially a #WebObjects app that is called for each path and produces a static site. Don't use it, but here it is: github.com/helje5/StaticCMS

It should have been 42, but instead they went for just 4. How lame is that?

I think Nextcloud is all PHP, isn't it? I understand why, but it's still sad that people hop on this.

The new (26) macOS AddressBook.app is so uniquely bad I can't explain how much I hate it. I wished that they would have fixed stuff in macOS 27, but no, it's still that awful thing.

I imagine building apps that specifically (maybe only?) support the Duo makes a lot of commercial sense, similar to building for the AvP. You'll reach customers that can pay proper prices for the apps and won't complain about a $49.99 or more if it actually provides reasonable value ...

I found new interest in SOGo, we’ll see where that goes. While the old SOGo was super scalable compared to other solutions at the time. Today it can’t be considered scalable with its thread/process based architecture. It’s still really fast/efficient (compiled C code that runs very quickly […]

At some point when I kinda left the project for another focus, a Canadian company took over (kinda forked) the project: Inverse.ca. That’s why it’s SOGo.nu (new) not ScalableOGo.org anymore. And that company got bought. By now a French company called “Alinto” is running the show. As far as I can […]

One of my most popular #FOSS projects (by far) is #SOGo, originally, #ScalableOGo for “Scalable OpenGroupware.org”. I think few people know it’s an invention of mine. It’s an Objective-C based #CalDAV / #CardDAV server and an #IMAP4/Web bridge. Back in 2003 or so ObjC was a good server side […]

I would have told them for free if they had asked, but the HomeView should really be an iPad speaker stand/wall attachment w/ sth like Magsafe. You’d have one in each room, and the iPad would usually stay attached to the stand, but if you need to, you could just take off the iPad and do things […]

It’s a little funny that the HomeView seems to drive on CarPlay tech. I still think that a car(/whatever) in CarPlay should actually be a “home” in HomeKit. A car has the same smart home stuff like an actual home. Lights, AC, Entertainment, etc.

Ah meh, looks like US banks are shutting down accounts from EU holders due to some EU law getting effective in January. Same thing EU banks already do to US people to be fair. How are people dealing with this? Any US banks that are willing to deal with the EU laws? #banking

In theory vCards are tiny (500-2000 bytes), because they only have a few bits of well structured information in a dense format. In practice vCards are actually pretty large (200k-1MB+), because they tend to embed the photo/avatar of the contact. #CardDAV #Versit

@castaway Also: Really, DAV is not originally made for syncing 100k items in a single collection. There is something inherently wrong server side on that aspect too. That‘s more a LDAP/directory server domain where you don‘t actually sync the items to the client. Though I actually think it […]

@castaway If you need 90secs to assemble 100k URLs, you are either using the original www NeXTcube or sth is completely b0rked in the server implementation. Maybe it‘s using PHP or sth ;-)

Helge Heß @helge.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 07/10/2026
@castaway W/o knowing what client you actually work on, I still think you should stream the PF:1 or initial sync report results on just the URLs. This gives you the size. Then you can fetch the items in multiget‘s if available. That‘s how the Apple clients work at least ;-)

Helge Heß @helge.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 07/10/2026
@castaway DAV sync is usually only used for getting the changed URLs/items, not for fetching the contents (though that‘s technically possible for CardDAV and CalDAV, but not generally for DAV). And the initial sync is the same like a PF:1 on the URLs. I can see you can technically limit it, not […]

@julien An iCalendar entity can contain events, todos and journals (and freebusy and timezones as supporting components). But a task in iCalendar is *not* a VEVENT. It‘s an own VTODO component with own rules and specific, standardized properties. In CalDAV you can either have calendar […]

@castaway I think DAV:limit is intended more for clients that do not sync at all, but perform addressbook search reports (usually as a frontend towards an LDAP/directory server). I think the Apple stuff supports such for things like looking up attendees in Calendar, but it‘s pretty rare in the […]

@castaway Not really, the PF:1 on is what pretty much all clients have to do first anyways. This gives you the count and the URLs to download (usually in batches w/ a multiget). It‘s a one time operation that can stream to the cache, you can build up the count as that goes, and then fetch the […]

@marchyman AppDelegate is almost definitely not observing and never was. But it’s a proactive delegate call and this is a ref type, so if you get an old version, quite likely sth in your wiring of the objects is icky (ie you get a different object). Can you make a gist of a small app […]

My takeaway from Omarchy is that people start to seriously understand that this is the time to get the control over our OSes back. And no, Omarchy is too weird on various aspects to succeed. But more reasonable efforts can!
