1/4 @apnews.com has told some video and photo guild members in the U.S. that the last day for those affected by layoffs will be August 21. Meanwhile the company is actively hiring for these same jobs in India.
On a red background with the AP News Guild Logo, white text reads: "Layoff updates. AP has told some video and photo guild members in the U.S. that the last day for those affected by layoffs will be August 21. Meanwhile the company is actively hiring for these same jobs in India. On a red background with the AP News Guild logo at the top of the page, white text reads, "Meanwhile over on likedin..." Then there is a screengrab of the union on Linkedin reposting Vice president of news and head of production, Derl McCrudden's post about the new video and photo positions in India.

The union's comments read: "Derl cheekily forgot to mention that the AP is laying off dozens of producers across the U.S., LatAm and Europe to create this hub in India. Specifically in the U.S., the company is seeking to eliminate positions covered by the Guild in yet another attempt to take away good union jobs. The Associated Press is terminating legacy producers and skilled journalists to expand a new hub where they are "not looking for perfection." The company is sacrificing reliability to save pennies. These new jobs are breaking the hearts of AP journalists who dedicated decades of service in the name of independent news. Offshoring is not expanding."
