I've had several spam calls about "taking over" the electricity supply at G3. I know they're spam because electric is included in my rent. 😡

Deep cuts from Matalas? No surprise there! I'm so excited. It's seems SO long since it started filming (not really - I'm just impatient.)

@lianabrooks.bsky.social You've read ARCHANGEL (albeit some time ago) - is it worth my time re-editing and republished it, do you think?

And, for a giggle, a snippet from the fanfic that's eating my brain.

“A villain would have.” She grabbed a tea towel to dry her hands, and then turned to face him. He was very close, the look in his stunning grey-green eyes intense. There was something about him that pulled at her like gravity, though she still fought the attraction. “I hope this finally convinces you that I’m not.”

Another #FridayFling from my sci fi romance-in-progress. Context: Darien has spent several days unconscious after being attacked by dire wolves and wakes to find Lyla asleep next to him. Having a near-death experience puts a few things into perspective...

God, I wanted her. I had from the moment I’d laid eyes on her in the rose dome, dishevelled from the crash landing but her face full of wonder as she stared at my flowers. I’d fought the attraction — I neither needed nor wanted it — but my heart had other ideas. I found myself reaching for her without conscious thought.

No spoilers, but the first 10 minutes of Ted Lasso destroyed me.

I've no idea why I, a Brit, am setting a story in the US.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Heh, thanks. The sci fi romance is getting there slowly. It would be faster were I not distracted by a fanfic and, as of about an hour ago, a paranormal crime story.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Please ignore the author who is sketching out a new story idea instead of writing the one she's 34K deep in.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I have a "how do I book?" moment every time I start a new one. Although I'm at 33K on a sci fi romance and I'm *still* thinking it.

Oh, wow, yes, yes, YES! An incredible human being and he crushed it as Gurathin ("it" being my heart in that last scene.)

For anyone thinking it's too soon to be nailing any colours to my mast, I politely refer them to my header image. 😅

Paladin, my love, what are you doing? Behave.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

YES! I saw it at the cinema and had no idea what was going on. The men in the suits were so scary!

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

The Stick Man from Rupert the Bear. Stupid thing terrified me so much, I tried prising the TV plug from its socket. With a metal spoon. No, I don't know how I survived childhood, either.

Ooh, I remember this! It went *dark* for a kids' movie!

Went to Jodrell Bank this afternoon, and popped my Blood on the Clocktower cherry. Then I had to go visit the Lowell Telescope. I first saw it when I was 6/7, not long before Who's Logopolis aired. I was transfixed at the time, then it was on Doctor Who!!! I love it so much.

Questival was fun, though the hall was hot and too noisy for workshops. Made some connections. Got very excited about Gelatinous3. Did not buy cake. All round success!!!

Despite *waves a hand at her new business* I still want to create TTRPGs. I love writing one-shots for my own use and want to expand on that. But there's so much thought that goes into the mechanics of non-D&D ones and it makes my brain hurt.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Off to Questival this morning, mostly for @fistfulofcrits.bsky.social workshop on writing solo RPGs. There are other things I'm interested in, but they're sold out. Then I have Megg's birthday party later, which I'm being picked up for. Trying to have a life but also not over doing it.

In this weeks #FridayFling, Lyla has got herself into a spot of bother...

My foot caught a rock hidden in the grass. My ankle twisted and I went sprawling to the ground, pain lancing up my leg. I was dead. Here and now, on a world half forgotten, with no one to mourn my passing. Would Darien bury whatever remained of me? Perhaps in one of the planters, where my rotting flesh could feed his precious bloody roses.

Then scroll past. This is the official trailer for a show that Todd is in, so he's going to promote it on his account.

And there I was, bemused by the Oreo x BTS collab.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

I really need Terry Matalas to stop creating characters that I'll melt like butter in the sun for. It's embarrassing now. Deacon couldn't have ticked more of my boxes had I given Terry a freaking list. Paladin? I've been calling him "Marvel Deacon" for months and it looks like I'm probably correct.

000

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

I ignore those when I see them. Too many false flags.

100

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

I've lost my tracking book so I'm not sure, but it's probably less than 5K on the original fiction. 10K on fanfic. *coughs*

000

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Oh. Ohhh. I get what my issue with OR&R is: I'm not in love with the characters. Ahh.

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Who the heck is seeing a goat?! It's clearly a bird. People are weird.

The surgery team nicked my urethra, which explains the difficulty in passing water and feeling a little under par. I have antibiotics and numbing cream. Please note this isn't shade at the hospital. These things happen and it's being taken care of. I'm still extremely happy to be sans gallbladder!

Not bloodied, but my brain immediately went to this scene:

Helen Rose Thwaite @helenthwaite.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

From my SFR "Of Retrograde & Roses": Lyla has gone to her ship by herself and is about to find out why Darien's told her not to. #WIPSnips

I reached out and laid a hand on the Herminia’s hull. Then something hard and furry slammed into me. Knocked the wind from my lungs and all hope from my heart. I had said “Fuck you” to my father’s coffin and I muttered those words now, the first curse to leave my mouth since that day.

“Fuck you. I hope you choke on my bones.”

Today's plan: less bitching, more writing.

Interesting mechanics. Gonna take a closer look!
