Season 15 speeds on with the wonderful @helencooperwriter.bsky.social up next! Described as the master of the twisty plot (a most delightful title, more of this please), Helen is a writer of psychological thrillers including The Woman In The Villa, My Darling Boy and The Couple In The Photo.

My current read "The Woman in the Villa" @helencooperwriter.bsky.social kept me awake till early hours with its propulsive plotting. An Italian vineyard in high summer is my idea of a nightmare holiday. So it proves. A strong whiff of closeted skeletons from its disfunctional family. 💀 📚 🌞 🍷

Book, "The Woman in the Villa" shows Woman in summer frock with glass of wine. Background of orange vineyard landscape at sunset & Italian villa opposite.

Love that Amazon has grouped me with two TV stars for an offer at the moment 😁. (Harriet from The Traitors is a brilliant writer, by the way - I haven’t read Louise Minchin’s book though so can’t comment!) The paperback of My Darling Boy is also on offer by itself at £3 at the moment

Very thankful for PLR payments in these times when being a self-employed writer can feel precarious! Over 12,000 people borrowed my books from libraries last year, and authors get a small payment for each loan. Thank you librarians and readers!

Unsolicited writing advice, no.326: Your narrative voice is a camera. Distant third person is remote, viewing from a distance. Close third person comes right up to the characters, sometimes even guessing their thoughts. First is a POV shot, watching through the eyes (and mind) of the character.

It’s tough in the writing industry at the moment but I’ve been so inspired talking to other writers who are diversifying and working their socks off to be able to keep doing it. Channeling that energy into 2026!

E-books are reading. Comics are reading. Genre is reading. Fanfic is reading. Text-based games are reading. Audiobooks are reading. Braille books are reading. Non-fiction is reading. Picture books are reading. There is no single way to read, nor is any reading style more worthy than another.
