Sad to hear of the passing of Wendell Berry; farmer, poet, prophet. I used some of his words within our first video, released in 2021; In the Trees. He had a way of saying things in such a deeply beautiful, reflective way. youtu.be/MeRWoLyizjc?...

Oh man. William Orbit was a sonic genius. Sad to hear of his passing. 13 is one of my favourite albums ever and this is a fun example of his production from it. Sonic chaos but totally enthralling… youtu.be/FYF2rhxLeAU?...

Today marks 1 year since our 2nd album, Hinterland, was released. Being a record themed on the in-between, it is fitting that the anniversary falls on the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The album was a partnership with artist Gareth Hayward. Here is another of his works for the album.

What’s more important in an album (a Held By Trees one as it happens); a listening journey with variety, or a consistent and distinctive sonic identity?

010

Held By Trees @heldbytrees.bsky.social · 07/01/2026

I feel like I really don’t want to play the game with the next album. I don’t want it to be reviewed, I am not bothered about press or radio. It’s too personal to me to hawk it in the ‘market place’. I am not just chasing fame and fortune; just sincere connection with our audience.

Everything we’ve released so far came through from the cosmic muse, telling us what wanted to ‘be’. The next album is very much an intentional setting-to for a particular sound and theme. It’s really taking shape now.

Forgot to mention, I saw @heldbytrees.bsky.social in Manchester last Sunday. Phenomenal. Second time seeing David Joseph and the gang play live. What switched me on to the band originally was David's love for Mark Hollis. He then went and found musicians who played with Mark and formed a band.
