Our first two stretch goals are unlocked, and we are very close to funding Twrch Trwyth’s enamel pin! Here is his bio, along Lorcán and Róisín (the two that are now unlocked). You can find more of Twrch Trwyth’s lore in our most recent KS update– link in bio. #mythology #kickstarter #enamelpins

An illustration of a boar accompanied with this text:
Celtic Beasties: Enamel Pins & Stickers

Twrch Trwyth was an Irish King who was turned into a boar as a punishment. He appears in the legend of Culhwch and Olwen. Olwen’s father (the Giant Ysbaddaden) required a task to win his blessing for Olwen’s marriage: they were to obtain a comb, scissors, and razor buried deep in the mane of Twrch Trwyth, then use those to cut and treat Ysbaddaden’s hair.

Twrch Trwyth had laid waste to a third of Ireland before King Arthur’s army even found him. They fought him there for eleven days before Twrch Trwyth led Arthur’s men on a chase across the sea to Wales, through England, and down into Cornwall. The boar wrecked havoc and inflicted many casualties along the way. Twrch Trwyth was defeated, but all the mightiest warriors, hunters, and legendary hounds fighting alongside King Arthur still could not slay this legendary boar. He escaped into the sea near Cornwall, living to fight another day.

Many faeries can be dangerous to humans, but not Róisín. She is every bit as sweet as she looks. Crodh Mara are faerie cows. They look like and act like normal cows, and are typically hornless. One thing that sets them apart from regular cows is that they live underwater, only coming ashore to graze on land.

One day, sweet Róisín was doing just that when she heard a couple of farmers bemoaning the terrible blight that had struck their crops that season. The blight extended for miles around, so many people were on the brink of starvation. Róisín decided to follow one of the farmers home.

When the farmer realized that Róisín could provide seemingly endless amounts of milk with ease, he spread the word to everyone in the surrounding towns. The farmer’s children made Róisín the flower crown she wears to thank her for saving their community.

He may look silly, but underestimate Lorcán at your own peril! At least… once he gets a little bit bigger. Lorcán was just a wee tadpole not too long ago, so right now he poses more of a threat to squirrels and fish than humans and livestock. Llamhigyn y Dŵr can allegedly be found lurking in swamps and ponds around Wales. These giant, carnivorous frog-like creatures let out a blood-curdling screech to paralyze prey before leaping out of the water to eat them. If something survives this initial attack, Lorcán can use the venomous stinger on his tail to poison his would-be meal. Beware!

This was commissioned specifically to be signed by the cast of #Firefly at ECCC earlier this year. The request was for Mal and “maybe a couple of crew members…” As you can see, I went a little above and beyond. I couldn’t choose just 2! I aim to misbehave 😉

A colorful watercolor painting by illustrator Lahela Schoessler. This ECCC commission depicts most of the crew of Firefly with their ship, doing a hard burn through a starry sky.

At @wickedfoxgames.com, I had the rare opportunity to contribute concept art exploration for Rise of Elements’ new character voiced by @thatgrltrish.bsky.social. The early idea for Cordelia was that she was an underwater inventor and explorer. #IndieGameDev #IndieGame #ConceptArt #Illustration

This #commission was a joy to work on! Introducing Nightmare, The Dread Rabbit. 🦇 I did a piece for Josh’s partner some time ago, for Josh’s birthday. That featured 2 of Josh’s rabbits. Nightmare is their 3rd rabbit, not included in the prior piece– this completes the set! #art #illustration

A reference photograph of a black rabbit looks down on her from above. The rabbit is curled up and sleeping on an empty blue plate. Underneath, there are several flattened cardboard boxes scattered over a carpeted floor. Some bits of hay are scattered over the carpet. A dappled gray squishmallow is in the background– it is not clear which one it is, but possibly a cow given the spotty patterning.

A handmade watercolor painting is held up over an art desk, with art supplies in the background. The artist’s (Lahela Schoessler) hand is shown holding the inked black and white line art. The artist's hand is visible in the frame. The piece depicts a rabbit with demonic horns and bat wings. The rabbit is surrounded by poppies, campanula bellflower and roses. The rabbit’s front feet are in a shallow water dish with a rose and some of the rose petals floating in it. Leaves surround the water dish and peek out among the flowers higher up.
