I run a short story I've written through an AI check: "100% human." Relief, followed immediately by: "Wait, does that mean it's badly written?"

Working my way through the Dungeon Crawler Carl series with an equal measure of voracious urgency and reluctance to catch up... @mattdinniman.bsky.social you've created a(nother) monster.

Writing gets easier once you stop asking every line to explain itself. Atmosphere can carry meaning before logic arrives.

My first book is currently available for free! It's about political machinations in an increasingly faithless world, which is struggling with the emergence of AI... it's fiction, honest. amzn.eu/d/bdcAXEJ

A metallic hand removes the dust from an ancient tome revealing its name: HOW IT ENDED. It creaks and crumbles as it's opened. The orange pages flip and a finger traces the words PART THREE and then, further down: "The convicted felon had won the popular vote by a landslide, the world stood aghast."

I keep writing short stories, convincing myself they deserve to be larger projects, then consigning them to gather dust in the growing Large Project pile. At least I’m writing, I guess. Does anyone else have a stack of ‘someday’ projects?

18 years of owning The Silmarillion and I've not yet made it past the first page. Anyone else just keeping a copy as a mythical artifact, rather than reading material? Maybe this is the year...

"The lady was dead, the smell suggested it and the riven, hanging skin declared it as fact. The eyes - that stared without blinking - were orbs of crystal cloud: defunct; the cheek was a window to the mouth and rotten stumps of teeth within; the nose was clinging on." #horror tinyurl.com/4nchh2m3

I've entered the last 100 pages of a book I'm reading. My eyes dart to those dusty and pensive on the shelves; the patient, the underestimated. I check my online wishlist and hear a distant groan. 97 pages left, but I haven't been paying attention. I've entered the last 100 pages...

The Jinx is breathtaking. It has absolutely everything: unhinged people; absurd actions; legal ineptitude; pure, real-life evil; the relentless, heartrending pursuit of justice. A must watch.

There's something about reading Hilary Mantel that feels like you're participating in something eternal, timeless. The words aren't on a page they're chiseled into the earth's crust, and now my mind #amreading

Daytime TV pitch: "Lofty Expectations" two families go head to head, with the assistance of a handy nerd, to complete a random task (e.g. toast some bread) using only the content of their loft/attic. Purpose built items are banned (e.g. a toaster). End results are scored for ingenuity and success.

I underestimated the impact an air fryer would have on my life. Just the sight of the oven makes me sick. Everything is now air fried. Nothing is safe. If you enter my house you are at risk of being air fried.

“So, how do you think you did?” The voice floated above him and he reached for it. He was prodded and then the world awoke. “At what?” “Life. Living. The thing you’ve been doing non-stop for all of your living memory until about…” she checked a watch, “…two minutes ago.” tinyurl.com/pk39fahu
