On my way to @ucla.edu to do a presentation for @disphilanthropy.bsky.social and taking @metrolosangeles.bsky.social avoid the commute, high cost of gas, and enjoy the cool AC. I even ran into an old friend from @CSUN who is also an alumni from my communications department

Via @calendow ICE raids are impacting disabled community members at unprecedented levels. In many of these cases, our disabled immigrant neighbors are being detained and left without medication, translators, and needed medical care. They need access to care, not further stress and disabling.

Hitting the pavement for a good cause is the best kind of therapy. Spent the morning w/ my SEIU 721 Lavender family building momentum for a better California w/ Caroline Menjivar. Even the little ones are getting a head start on civic duty—future voter alert! 👶🏾 Building a better future starts now.

The truth about Autism is that Autism doesn’t have a ‘look.’ It’s a spectrum, not a linear scale from ‘less’ to ‘more.’ You can’t tell someone is autistic just by looking at them—but you can tell how inclusive a space is by how they feel within it. ✨ #DisabilitySpectrum

Happy #DeafAwarenessMonth! 🤟 We are incredibly grateful to have hosted an inspiring presentation by two powerful advocates: ✨ Catalina Romero from Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, Inc. ✨ Andrea Grimes, LCSW, from the LA County Department of Mental Health @lacdmh
Commissioner Reyna Peggie, wearing a dark blue t-shirt with a colorful graphic that includes Japanese characters and other languages that read Peace Over Violence. Next to her Commissioner Michael Agyin, a Black man, he's wearing a grey short-sleeved collared shirt. In the center, Andrea Grimes, a young Black woman with long, dark, textured hair that falls over her shoulders, is smiling. To her right, Commissioner Hector Ramirez, an older nonbinary individual with braided long hair stands with glasses, and a vibrant smile while wearing a purple t-shirt with a graphic on the front which reads ASL. On the far right, Catalina Romero, a young woman with glasses and dark hair pulled back, is smiling. She's wearing a black short-sleeved collared shirt that reads GLAD.

Militarized ICE officers in MacArthur Park last week instilled fear. Their activity and heavy media coverage don't boost safety; they harm mental health by increasing fear, anxiety, and triggering trauma. This leads to missed appointments, isolation, and limited access to vital support.
A dark blue image with a grainy texture features text in white and teal. The word "ICE" is prominently displayed in large, bright teal, stylized to appear somewhat blurred or smudged. Below it, in white, are the words "PRESENCE IS A PUBLIC HEALTH". Further below, also in large, bright teal and with the same blurred effect, is the word "ISSUE". At the very bottom, centered in small white text, is "@CALENDOW".

Know your rights and stay housed! Many seniors & disabled relatives living in LA County have had their rents increased significantly over the past months after the LA Fires. Some folks report rent increases by as much as 40% from landlords claiming questionable reasons. #TheRentIsToHigh
