Youtaites and vsingers, it took Paul McCartney 32 takes to nail the song “Blackbird”. You should NEVER feel bad about doing too many takes. Do as many as you need to create the music you want to create!

It's essentially a smart, dynamic EQ that suppresses whatever harsh resonant frequencies that you target It can take the edge off of cheap mics, help keep the low end consistent when moving around, and soften even the most ear-piercing vtuber screeches

Waves just released a zero latency version of their insanely good Curves Equator resonance suppression plugin Paired with the free Waves StudioRack for OBS, streamers can now use what I consider one of the best "makes shit sound better" plugins you can get And it's only $40

Mixers! 24hr deal on ADPTR plugins ($30 vs the usual $200+) Metric AB is my go-to metering plugin. AB'ing mixes, checking loudness, phase, stereo width and MId-Side. It's just a fantastically useful plugin Streamliner is also amazing for hearing how mixes will sound on various streaming platforms

This project was so much fun to mix!!!!! To keep the vintage feel, I limited myself to emulations of gear that would've been available at CBS/Sony studios in Tokyo in the 1980's (where "Ride on Time" was originally recorded) Hope everyone can catch the premiere!

Fun Fact: Decca Tree relies on a very unique aspect of the Neumann M50 mic It's a small diaphragm omni capsule mounted within a sphere. This sphere creates increasing directionality at higher frequencies, giving you the best of both worlds Rich extended low end with a clear stereo image

Sometimes knowing some recording history can be so so helpful when trying to recreate certain sounds

010

Hectagonist.bsky.social @hectagonist.bsky.social · 20/11/2024

A lot of 50's/60's orchestral stuff was purely Decca Tree with no outrigger, ambient, or spot mics There's definitely something about the purity of a single stereo capture

RePitch Standard gives you the Shaper Tool, Smooth Join, Draw Tool, and the Warp Points Tool I use Warp Points A LOT and the Draw Tool is such a useful thing (that I wish Melodyne had) so for $40 it is well worth the upgrade

Heads up if you own RePitch Elements! Check your Upgrade Offers with the current Black Friday sale RePitch Standard is only $40 for me but I'm not sure if that's because I also own ReVoice Pro. Would love to know if that's the discount for all RePitch Elements owners!

Compared to the Disney movie version, MIchael Bolton's "I Will Go the Distance" kinda fucks in the most 90's Adult Contemporary Rock way possible Doesn't hurt that it was mixed by the same guy that did Daft Punk's Random Access Memories

This is actually a good topic for a long post What specs to look at when pairing headphones to an interface etc

120

Hectagonist.bsky.social @hectagonist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024

The 4th gen 2i2 is 50 Ω which is ideally 400 Ω for headphones, which is very high Audient iD14 is around 23 Ω, so 184 Ω for HPs MOTU M2 is 0.06 Ω, or only 0.48 Ω for HPs Most manufacturers don't even post that spec but if you watch Julian Krause on YT he posts his test results in every review

Hectagonist.bsky.social @hectagonist.bsky.social · 15/11/2024

Headphone Output Impedance, it's basically the measure of electrical resistance The rule of thumb is headphone impedance should be 8 times the hp output impedance to maintain the flattest frequency response. In practice, lower is usually fine but it varies

120

Hectagonist.bsky.social @hectagonist.bsky.social · 14/11/2024

Info for both you and Shiro: The only bad spec on the 4th gen Scarlett is the high HP output impedance I'd try and use headphones 80 ohms or more ideally to keep the frequency response flat as possible Other than that they basically improved everything + 2i2 has digitally controlled preamps 👍

The fact that things like biggest pumpkin competitions exist, and that the growers even name their gargantuan gourds and show them off at autumnal festivals is something so delightful..… it is so warming to remember the whimsical treasures of humanity found in little pockets of our world 🤍
