A post gig story: Today for lunch I had vegan chili that I made earlier this week. It makes me a l i t t l e gassy so it may not have been the best choice, considering that for roughly 4 hours I have to sit in the theater with a very sensitive microphone essentially right in front of my knees.

I’m judging my state’s district auditions again (every district has a festival and the top from each district goes to all-state), and somehow got assigned scales AGAIN 2 years in a row 😖😵‍💫 which should really be illegal and a Geneva convention human rights violation imo

It’s my “day off” from Broadway (but I still teach from 3-8 pm) and I’ve not only gotten up early and had my full body skin check at my dermatologist (all clear!) but gotten tons of little things done and have somehow tons of energy today?? Idk how since I just had a double-double weekend 🤷🏼‍♀️

You know a performance is going great when you’re on your 3rd reed after only like 40 minutes 😵‍💫😖😵 Reed 1 was too hard for the 2nd of a double-double and my lips would have died. Reed 2 thread started to unravel. Reed 3 holding up so far 💪🏼🤞🏼

Today is cold and rainy and windy and gross so I walked around the mall next door to the theater between shows. Currently sitting in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton because they have big comfy chairs. I’m so tired and freezing 🥶 but we’ve had a great week of shows! One more to go 🫩

Wednesday night we had our press opening and Gala at the Museum of Contemporary Art. It was rad and I took barely any pictures, but there was awesome tapas, open bar, and we of course had a runway show where anyone can walk and show off their outfit. The theme this year was Haunt Couture.

Playbill for Dirty Dancing the “musical” I guess, although it was basically just a live version of the movie with very little singing.

I’m wiped and my brain is a useless puddle of goo, but the first week of Jekyll is done!! My first 8 show week, first time playing 2 doubles in a week, first union gig, and first Playbill! It’s been an amazing experience so far, and we’ve had great audiences to share our excitement with!

Because of the 2007-ish housing market crash my school district laid off over 1,000 people. School funding in IL is based on property taxes, so foreclosed empty houses = no taxes and no school funding.

It was called Videodisc because when they opened they mostly rented videodiscs! VCRs weren’t that common yet. Yes I had friends who actually had videodisc players. We had them in my elementary school! Even after they died out and VHS tapes took over they never changed the name.

For the first time in 5 years they are requiring us to do GCN and ALICE training at my high school 😒 I always had to do them when I taught full-time as a salaried employee years ago but we eluded them as part-time hourly employees. I guess they finally realized we exist and are making us now ☹️
